The Phillies Two & Three Years Ago

Can you believe it was three years ago yesterday? October 6, 2010, Roy Halladay tossed just the second no-hitter in postseason history, stifling the Cincinnati Reds in the NLDS.

Luckily, I was there and it was certainly a moment I’ll never forget. I was able to capture the video below from my seat in the press box. Hell, I was nervous for Doc. Yet he was the coolest customer in the building. Just a surreal atmosphere.

Here is Jayson Stark’s postgame story.

I also wrote a breakdown, which you can find here.

——————————

Two years ago today, the Phillies lost a heartbreaker. Up 2-1 over the Cardinals, St. Louis roared back to win the final two games and clinched a spot in the NLCS. Everyone recalls what happened in Game 5. It was sort of a defining moment of the downfall of the franchise. The offense was shutdown completely by Chris Carpenter, who outdid his friend Roy Halladay, 1-0. The Phillies haven’t recovered since.

Halladay’s one run and six hits over eight innings was not good enough. Ryan Howard blew out his Achilles tendon and the rest is history.

Here is our Phillies Nation game story from that day.

The Ryan Howard pic pretty much symbolizes the end of their great run.

Had Ryan not tore his Achilles, we would have seen a much better team these past 2 years.

That loss to the cardinals was the most stressful and frustrating games I ever had to watch. A lead off triple and that was all she wrote. It felt like an uphill battle after that inning, even though it was only a single run scored. Raul Ibanez ball that looked like a homer off the bat, and a Chase Utley deep fly ball to dead center field that just REFUSED to leave the park…and Ryan Howard’s torn achilles. I am convinced that he just didn’t want to make the final out of the season (as he had in the previous season, a called strike three against the giants), and he pushed himself beyond his limits (as he had a gimpy foot all of september).

Thus began the rapid tumble of the Philadelphia Phillies.

My favorite is when Howard blew is Achillies and grounds out and the guy runs too first with his hands up like yeah Ryan is running hard i better get him out. lol. It kinda upset me. Like just walk to first and hope Ryan is okay. Jesus Im glad the Cardinals are losing this year in the playoffs.
