Offseason, Rumors

Jim Salisbury of CSN Philly reported today that catcher Carlos Ruiz is the catcher the Phillies want most, citing his right-handed bat and his familiarity with the pitching staff.  Salisbury reports that in addition to the Phillies, the Red Sox and Rockies are known to have called Chooch. The Rockies, as we found out early this week, are interested in bringing in Ruiz on a multi-year deal.

What I don’t understand is if the Phillies are interested in Ruiz, why not tender a contract? You had him…why not try to keep him without the bargaining of all the other teams? Or did they want to let him test the waters to see what he was worth on the open market? And why doesn’t someone just get him a prescription for Adderall?

Do we know that they didn’t offer him a contract? All we know is that they didn’t offer him the 1 year $14.1 million qualifying offer.

I find it amusing that anyone would think that the Phillies have the talent pool necessary to acquire David Price. If they were however willing to take Dom Brown as a centerpiece, (he of a great 4 week run) i would do it in a heartbeat.

Agreed trade brown for price,,. As most of you can tell I’m not to sold on brown, but we don’t want moletran(Beltran) holy moley. Ever see that meatball he has stuck to his head. The reall reason I don’t want Beltran is age and injuries

    I don’t want Cruz, he’s a juicer.

I don’t want Cruz because he’s 33 (34 in July), and has a career .734 OPS away from hitter-friendly Arlington. Emphatic pass.
