2014 Gameday, Analysis, News, Opinion, Posts

otherPhiladelphia Phillies (7-9) at Colorado Rockies (9-9)

Starting Pitchers:
PHI: Kyle Kendrick
COL: Jordan Lyles

Time: 8:10, Coors Field
Weather: Mostly Cloudy, 60
Media: Twitter and Facebook

A Note for Tonight:

Yesterday was about as bad as it gets. Kyle Kendrick will look to stop the Rockies tonight in a place where he hasn’t been spectacular. At Coors Field, Kendrick¬†is 1-0 with a 5.83 ERA. Colorado has hit .331 against him in in their home park.¬†

If Kendrick isn’t careful, this could get out of hand quickly with the hot hitting Charlie Blackmon atop the order hitting .426, and Troy Tulowitzki coming off an impressing Friday night.

Lineup: Revere CF / Rollins SS / Utley 2B / Howard 1B / Byrd RF / Brown LF / Ruiz C / Asche 3B / Kendrick P

He’s the most interesting part of the game, I think…

Fortunately, it was a pro-Phillies squirrel: The inning started with two hits and a run, but once the squirrel entered the field, it was 1-2-3. :D

What’s the MLB record for straight games without a team managing a solitary extra base hit?

I found this listing but it only covers 1957 through 2007:

    PIT 1985 – 5 games – 32 hits

    NYY 1967 – 6 games – 43 hits

    LAA 1964 – 5 games – 29 hits

We’re slowly inching closer to the day when a new GM will be brought in. That’s the only bright spot I can think of right now. The product on the field is unwatchable.

The Phils are inching closer to a 27 game losing streak. They wanna beat the Sixers streak. And they can do it with this offense.

This is not the best team I have ever followed.

I really expected more from Montgomery and Amaro.

The $180,000,000.00 really could have been invested in a more prudent manner.

Will they give us a loss number where Ruben is fired?

It can be 95 or 100 or 110.

Whatever the number is just put it out there so we have something to root for and look forward to.

    That would be hope.

I am just trying to hope.

Amaro has left us with no hope.

“Amaro has left us with no hope.”

      Not true!
3 years ago it was damn near impossible to get seats, even at scalper prices.

As for the bloated payroll, Rube even said it, himself.
They can’t spend money on talent because “attendance is off.”
Which is like murdering your parents and appealing to the judge for leniency because you’re an orphan.

They can’t spend money on talent cause he over spent on crap…

You can’t blame the attendance for not spending money, amaro f’d up the payroll/budget himself and he’s trying to place the blame somewhere else…

I don’t normally jump on the bandwagon to fire Ruben, because I think everyone else says enough of it that I do t need to add my two cents, but I do believe it’s time to ship amaro out and see who we can get to run this team, it’s going to take a full rebuild to turn it around at this point, or wait until the most of the contracts run out in a couple years and just start the rebuild then….

    Ugh! This is really sad.

Carlos Ruiz’s last RBI was September 21 of last season (a span of 18 games). Cody Asche is following up on his .211 September by hitting .205 in April.

Good to see some comments from last night’s game. Course some people have a way of coming out of the woodwork every time the Phils suck, let alone lose, but that’s no different than the frontrunners, or whatever word befits ‘em , when the club wins. Say what? The Phils actually win sometimes? Lord have mercy, Percy.

But, since there are some warm bodies alive, no idea on the wellness, it’s not surprising, but it’s funny how quick people are to jump on Jimmy Shortstop on the occasions he doesn’t hustle to first base after a batted ball. Ball takes 2 bounces, Jimmy gets out of the box, and the messages appear. Finally, completing the plot, Jimmy gets to first.

With the golden haired boy, whom, like most, and probably more so, Bryce Harper goes more lackadaisical than Jimmy on his laziest day, yesterday, the peeps are quiet. Now this is a Phillies board, so there’s an immediate clue as to why Harper gets no comments, but I can’t help but wonder if to some smallish extent, the race card enters into it. Not that Bryce’s pathetic effort merited an ounce of defense, but he might get less criticism than Rollins, possibly racially inspired. Well, hell, at least Hank Aaron might think so. Harper has a mixed image, so it’s hard to tell.

But while I was, as I have been in the SEVERAL other instances where Bryce has gone to first lazily, somewhere between disappointed and disgusted, what really caught my attention was that Harper being pulled, and as rightly so as it’s so obvious by the Phils improved play that Charles Manuel should have been let go, it cost him a GWRBI chance in the last inning. The AB was left in the hands of Kevin Frandsen, and people are screaming about what a downgrade that is. Poor Frandsen. Guy does what he does to max potential for a long time, is clearly a team guy, and gets dumped on because of somewhere between Harper’s ability and potential. That type thinking will never change, and it’s not entirely wrong, but in a big spot, Frandsen is at least as likely to deliver as a whole lot of his MLB contemporaries.

Just as we all predicted back in October of 2013, the 4 pitchers with the lowest ERA come April 20th…

    Hollands 2.45
    Burnett 2.74
    Kendrick 3.60
    Hernandez 3.86

…and Hernandez now up to 5.75 after today’s effort. It’s like they say, water seeks it own level.

Ryan Howard is such a class act. They just asked him how he felt about missing the cycle because of that error call, and he very sincerely said he was just happy to get the run home.
