2014 Gameday, Analysis, News, Posts

New York Mets (14-11) at Philadelphia Phillies (13-12)

Starting Pitchers:
PHI: LHP Cole Hamels (0-1, 3.00)
ARZ: LHP Jon Niese (1-2, 2.45)

Time: 7:05, Citizens Bank Park
TV: Comcast Sportsnet
Weather: Showers/wind, 47
Media: Twitter and Facebook

A Note for Tonight:

After a winning road trip, the Phillies must come home and do some damage against division rivals over the next five games. It begins tonight against the Mets. The problem is the weather – it’s downright brutal at CBP and doesn’t look to get any better. They’ll do whatever they can to get this game in because tomorrow is supposed to be worse with up to five inches of rain falling by tomorrow night. Look for an ugly, low scoring game. The Phillies don’t seem to play well in frigid temps, and that could continue tonight.

Nix is 4 for 7 lifetime vs. Niese (small sample obviously). He’s also been a pretty good hitter vs. lefties in recent years, although that hasn’t been true in the early going this year.

Not a good matchup tonight. Niese usually owns them and the Mets usually light Hamels up.

I would say that your two pronged bold prediction of Hamels in low single digits in the win column and total washout season came to fruition in one night. Washout being defined by The Cool One standing embarrassingly on the mound with raindrops falling on and around him. Pretty literal, if you ask me. What a psychological advantage the Mets have built up against this particular pitcher, even if just in their own minds.

So the total washout in place, all you need is the low single digit wins to play out. Nice going. You made it through April still alive.

Cole just walked in a run. (Rubs eyes in disbelief). I must be hallucinating.
