San Diego Padres (28-36) at Philadelphia Phillies (26-36)

Starting Pitchers:
SD: Tyson Ross (6-5, 3.22)
vs.
PHI: Cole Hamels (2-3, 3.49)

Time: 7:05, Citizens Bank Park
TV: CSN
Weather: Chance of Rain, 68
Media: Twitter and Facebook

A Note for Tonight:

Cole Hamels is coming off an excellent start against the Cincinnati Reds, who he shutout in 7.2 innings.  Hamels has had a history of dominating the Reds, and he will once again face a team who he has had career success against.  In 14 career starts, Hamels is 8-2 with a 2.39 ERA against the San Diego Padres.

After his victory against the Reds, Hamels was quoted to say: “Any time I’m here and going up against that team, it’s what I associate: those positive memories. That kind of jumpstarts it.”

Hamels’ statement is important tonight. He faces another team who he knows he has success against. There’s a good chance that he will gain confidence for tonight’s game knowing that he does well against the Padres.  Baseball is just as mental as it is physical, so those “positive memories” should do Hamels good.

Lineup: Revere CF / Rollins SS / Utley 2B / Howard 1B / Byrd RF / Brown LF / Ruiz C / Brignac 3B / Hamels P

Was talking to my buddy. Apparently the Mets may can Terry Collins.

then we talked about Amaro and how amazing it is hes still got his job.

    Uncanny even.

He asked how could Ruben last past this year.
    Under any scenarios.

I said I guess if they won 85 games this year he might make it.

Then I thought about it and if they played 8 million games this team couldn’t win 81.

In a way as his tenure winds down I am beginning to appreciate it.

There has never been a GM ever given what he has been given to so thoroughly destrpy something.

He got handed a world series roster. A decent farm system and a payroll that was about to goto 180 million from 95 million.

    And you get this.

No one else could ever duplicate it.

Its uncanny and people need to appreciate the level here.

You will never find anyone else as poor at their job as Amaro.

And they still have it LOL

If he was a surgeon hed have killed every patient but not been fired.

    I applaud you Ruben.

I will never see anyone as bad at what they do as you have been.

    Congrats.

I don’t agree with the sacrifice bunt by Revere in the third inning. Basically, we gave up an out on 1 pitch to get Hamels to 2nd base. It’s not certain a single is going to score Hamels anyway.

    Will the Phillies score today?

Lefty I did bet against California chrome on Saturday.

    Was a very nice score.

    Makes the phils more fun.

I actually watch and follow the Mets.

I can laugh at them easier than the Phillies.

    They are dreadfully bad.

To me second worst team in baseball.

I underestimated how terrible these Phillies are.

I don’t think the mets could take 4 of 5 from a college team.
    They can the Phillies

They lost 6 in a row right after the series. 3 to the Cubs.

But that was my last ever bet on this Phillies squad.

I have won quite a bit over the years though.

That’s the difference in fundamental baseball between two teams. The Padres pitcher didn’t wait to see if the ball goes foul, he goes hard, snags it and gets the out.

I know, thats why I have to bust your balls when you’re wrong.

You told everyone that Amaro was ruining the team in 2009, trust me I know.

  • Posts: 0 Andrew from waldorf

    The Amaro agenda was something.

I had my fits when maybe this could have been avoided lol.

I really don’t see why he doesn’t just quit.

If I was doing anything to the level that he does GMing a major league team I would just stop.

It cant be fun for him.

I really thought it was over when Brian Wilson Ked Howard in 2010.

That was the off season when things needed to happen and they didn’t.

Don’t forget I predicted game 5 vs the Cardinals to the exact score. LOL

Larussa really exposed the line up.

And here it is 2014 and they are just going to roll Howard out 4th forever?

    That amazes me too.

Ha ha TMAC with his call of Dom Brown’ s out “towering shot” to short/mid right field? I think he’s terrible judging balls in the air.

Im taking the over on Cole’s pitch count.

Did they announce attendance of 45000?

This is another game for Cooperstown.

There are a lot of bad teams in MLB.

Padres aren’t much but they are better than the Phillies I guess.

Why do you care so much about attendanho gives a sh I t really. Im glad I can get seats wherever I l want whenever I want. The payroll doesn’t need the money anyway.

I predict another post game where Cole declines to talk to the media.

That they announce a fake number amuses me.

I wonder how many times teams walked to get to Ted Williams?

They been walking to get to Howard for a very long time.

    Don’t get testy Lefty!

Amd yes when they slash the pay roll will be amusing too.

But can be this bad with the smallest pay roll too.

Howard is a nice human being.

Its not enjoyable watching a guy with a 710 OPS

    hit 4th

I ask again is he just going to hit 4th for the length of the contract?

The rays are this bad with the smallest payroll.

Olney just did a comparison on the Rays – Phillies last week. The main point being that the Rays have a young nucleus to build around. The Phils, not so much.

“The Philadelphia Phillies and Tampa Bay Rays are in free fall, and they could face the same question in the weeks ahead: Should they conduct a sell-off of marketable assets or hang on and hope for a turnaround?

But the quandary faced by these two teams is not really the same.

If Tampa Bay decides to take players into the market, they could dangle David Price, a former Cy Young winner who has another 1.5 seasons before becoming eligible for free agency. Price might not have as much trade value as a casual fan might think, but he’s got value, and there would be serious interest.

Whatever they get for Price, whether they deal him in July or in the offseason, the Rays will add those young players to Alex Cobb and Chris Archer and Wil Myers. They will reload and move ahead.

A Phillies sell-off, on the other hand, might actually be bleaker than how they’re playing now, because they don’t really have movable pieces, and there really isn’t a core they’d be adding to. ”

Always amazing to see a team intentionally walk Utley to get to Howard. Is there any other team in baseball where teams *want* to face the #4 hitter?

Who do you bat cleanup from this roster? IMO They dont have anyone else.

    Papelbon is so slllllooowwww

  • Posts: 0 Andrew from waldorf

    The Rays aren’t this bad.

    Let Rollins hit 4th.

Is it a pitchers duel or is this ineptitude?

The thing with Howard is other teams know he will get himself out.

So why not walk to get to him.

    in 2011

before the injury Larussas entire plan was to get to Howard and put in Arthur Rhodes.

Sign the little kid who caught that ball
