Domonic Brown is back in the lineup after sitting out last night’s loss. He is batting .313 versus Atlanta this season.

Lineup:

Sizemore CF / Rollins SS / Utley 2B / Howard 1B / Byrd RF / Asche 3B / Brown LF / Rupp C /Hamels P

Argh. The Braves pitcher is throwing crap, and we still can’t get a run out of it.

The one about Howard hitting worse than people we’ve barely even heard of? Yeah, I saw it. Too depressing to think about.

Hamels: 24 pitches through 2, and 18 of them are strikes. He’s looking good so far.

Harang is pitching crap, pitch count already up to 59, but we can’t get a run out of him.

Braves announcers point out that Cole spent almost the whole inning on the bases. See if it affects him.

(sigh) 6 LOB. TMac says “not a whole lot of offense for either side.” Dumbo. Plenty of offense for the Phils — 4 hits already — just no runs.

If not for a HBP in the first inning, we might be looking at a “p” word followed by a “g” word.

I think the Phils should just stand there and wait for their walk. Would probably give them a better OBP against this guy.

Schmeck, where does the Phils stand as far RISP in the NL. They have got to be in he lower 2 or 3.

Yep, for the year their 9th in OPS with RISP, but probably more importantly in that case, 13th in batting average with RISP (.232).

They were doing well enough with runners in scoring position, but have plummeted lately.

Through June 14th (66 games): .242 average overall, .242 with RISP
Since June 15th (29 games): .228 average overall, .199 with RISP

Averages across the NL: .249 overall, .246 with RISP

Rupp has one heck of a cannon. The team has some good young players, especially in the Pen. Lee, Paplebon and a truck load of money to the dodgers for the young stud OF and SS prospect.

They can get a very good package for Papplebon as long as they eat some salary. Need a solid OF bat that can actually field/

Dodgers need relief help. I doubt they would close a deal this week though. They want Papelbon available against the Giants.

There is a poll up on mlbtraderumors as to whether or not the phils will make a deadline deal this year or not….

They damn well better make multiple deadline deals, they should be making deals right now as we speak…

I’m available tonight and tomorrow, if you need help pulling the trigger on these deals let me know, I’m not attached to anyone…. Lol

Fantastic game by Hamels! Solid defense, especially Rupp’s arm, and the Giles-Papeltool train continues to roll full steam ahead. Let’s win this series!
How about the Braves releasing Uggla?! What a great return to baseball for me to watch: we beat the Braves and Uggla is gone, and Cole through almost five, flirted with a no-hitter!

    Via mlbtraderumors…..

The Phillies have been discouraged by what they’re hearing from other teams on Cole Hamels. The Phillies consider him their biggest trade chip, but will hold on to him if they don’t get what they consider a fair deal. The Red Sox sent their top pitching scout to watch the hurler before the break and the Phillies have scouted Boston’s major and minor league teams all season. One major league source said if the Phillies get a taker on the full contract and they get three top prospects, he’s gone, and Hamels, according to another major league source, wouldn’t mind.

I’ll always be a Cole fan, but if it’s what all sides they feel they have to do, then so be it. No surprise to me if Cole is sick of so little run support.

Jim Bowden has proposed seven deals for the Phillies:

      1. Left-handed starter Cole Hamels to the Los Angeles Dodgers in exchange for center fielder Joc Pederson and left-handed pitcher Julio Urias

      2. Left-handed starter Cliff Lee to the New York Yankees in exchange for outfielder Aaron Judge and right-handed starter Luis Severino

      3. Second baseman Chase Utley to the Oakland Athletics in exchange for third baseman Renato Nunez and second baseman Chad Pinder

      4. Right-hander A.J. Burnett and closer Jonathan Papelbon to the Baltimore Orioles in exchange for right-handed pitcher Hunter Harvey, left-handed pitcher Tim Berry and right-handed hurler Parker Bridwell

      5. Right fielder Marlon Byrd to the Seattle Mariners in exchange for outfielder Gabby Guerrero

      6. Shortstop Jimmy Rollins to the Detroit Tigers in exchange for right-handed reliever Corey Knebel and middle infielder Hernan Perez

      7. Left-hander Antonio Bastardo to the Atlanta Braves in exchange for right-handed pitcher David Hale and infielder/outfielder Edward Salcedo

Good list, and of the ones I could at least offer a semi intelligent comment on, there’s a lot of practicality to the idea. The Byrd/Guerrero deal seems pretty plausible, bloodlines like that are no guarantee, but they at least offer some hope for a steal of sorts. Not that acquiring Burnett and Papelbon would e terrible for the O’s, but I wonder if the Duquette/Showalter lead decision team gives up Hunter Harvey for tham. Maybe depends on what kind of salary level the Phils pay.

But that Hamels to LA deal, I don’t know. From the Phils perspective, you’re getting A LOT, even if it’s hard to project on an 18 year old pitcher. And there’s nothing wrong with LA strengthening a strength, but it does nothing to alleviate the offensive problems they have shown in big situations. I wonder if they might not be better off dealing some excessive talent
and replenishing their farm system, and giving Pederson a shot. Players like Hanley aren’t easily replaced, but their best bet might be his regaining health, and being Hanley. The deal makes more sense for the Phils than LA.

        What’s are the bloodlines??

And I don’t think that’s a big enough return for cole hamels

I know absolutely nothing about other teams farm systems, I just don’t keep a close enough eye on that kind of thing. But it seems to me that Orioles wouldn’t be looking to trade many prospects. Also, they just lost two draft choices last offseason signing Ubaldo and Cruz.

I could see one, maybe two, of some variation on these possibilities. As I said yesterday, I really don’t believe the Dodgers are looking to spend/trade a lot for starting pitching. They would more likely be in the market for Burnett than Hamels IMO.

Lee or Hamels to the Yankees looks more plausible to me.

That lee to the Yankees for judge And Severino is the exact deal I proposed a couple days ago, so let’s get it done…. Hopefully cliff will show he is healthy and we can get a deal done…

        We need to rebuild

Like a Phillies win streak, the game day thread was short-lived. Lol. Evil KK has continued to emerge in the never-ending battle between Good KK and Evil KK. Although he has moved his hideous Modus operandi to the second inning, and as I type this, has just loaded them. Argh!!!
