News, Rumors

Good Sunday morning! Just 11 days away from the trade deadline, here are the latest trade rumors surrounding the Phillies.

- Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe cites Major League sources, stating that if the Phillies find a taker for the entire remainder of Cole Hamels‘ contract and get three pieces in return, Hamels “is gone”.

- The Phillies and the Orioles have begun “very preliminary” discussions regarding A.J. Burnett per Jon Morosi. Burnett, 37, has seen a drop in peripheral numbers this year with a rising ERA. Burnett has a vesting option for 2015 that increases in value the more he pitches with a limited no-trade clause that does not include the Orioles.

Some minor league transaction notes:

- Freddy Galvis has completed his rehab assignment and joined the IronPigs on July 19. Outfielder Clete Thomas returned from the seven-day disabled list yesterday while pitcher Jo-Jo Reyes was activated by the Pigs as well. Finally, the¬†IronPigs have released Barry Enright. Enright, 28, had a 5.58 ERA for the ‘Pigs and surrendered seven earned in three and a third innings pitched in a 13-0 loss to Syracuse on Thursday.

I think three top prospects straight up for cole is a good deal, anything less than that and I would keep him….

I just tuned in, and I was about to say, “Hey! KK got through the first inning without giving up the winning run!”

… and then he gave up the lead.

Well, time has come to just admit that an “outside the box” solution is needed for those games KK pitches. Perhaps some reverse engineering is in order. Instead of closing Paps pitches to the top of the lineup, then maybe a setup guy takes on inning 2, and then shut the door with our secret weapon… Kyle K for innings 3 thru 9. Yep, a full proof – can’t miss plan. Everybody wins! LOL. Concessions, advertisers, comcast… Boy, I feel like I’m leaving someone out… Oh, yeh, the fans. Always the last to be considered.
Speaking of which, I’d like to give Comcast a big shoutout for making the Phills damn near impossible for me to see on TV. I have Dishnet and use to be able to watch all the Phills Sunday games on a Local TV channel. Not any more… It’s kinda nice not feeling like tuning in jinxes them… People were right. The Phills were capable of sucking all on their own. They didn’t need my superstitious self to pull them down. Thank you Comcast. You are both “the man” and “you suck” at the same time. Great job.

Murphy bitches about the Phillies constantly so much so that I treat his “blogs” like annoying static.

He’s great…my favorite local writer by far! I guess if you want a cheerleader, you should look somewhere else. Murphy has described the demise of this franchise accurately in my opinion.

I guess the truth hurts, lol

I don’t want a cheerleader but his rants have grown tiresome. I haven’t ever looked for a cheerleader in my sports reporting. The problem is that Murphy goes in the opposite direction. Murphy’s paradigm carefully avoids weighing all of the collateral facts and circumstances that are part of the club’s decision-making processes in favor of making his own redundant points.

I suppose that’s why its referred to as a blog and not reporting.

I think they would hold on to Cole.

Does anybody subscribe to ESPN insider and read the article by Jim Bowden? I think it’s titled “7 trades the Phillies should make right now? ” i tried to subscribe, but it wouldn’t let me. I just want to know the 7 trades he proposed.

      Someone had posted these recently:

      1. Hamels to the Los Angeles Dodgers in exchange for center fielder Joc Pederson and left-handed pitcher Julio Urias

      2. Lee to the New York Yankees in exchange for outfielder Aaron Judge and right-handed starter Luis Severino

      3. Utley to the Oakland Athletics in exchange for third baseman Renato Nunez and second baseman Chad Pinder

      4. Right-hander A.J. Burnett and Papelbon to the Baltimore Orioles in exchange for right-handed pitcher Hunter Harvey, left-handed pitcher Tim Berry and right-handed hurler Parker Bridwell

      5. Right fielder Marlon Byrd to the Seattle Mariners in exchange for outfielder Gabby Guerrero

      6. Rollins to the Detroit Tigers in exchange for right-handed reliever Corey Knebel and middle infielder Hernan Perez

      7. Bastardo to the Atlanta Braves in exchange for right-handed pitcher David Hale and infielder/outfielder Edward Salcedo

You’d be trading away the whole team…We mind as well call up the whole Reading Phillies team for the remainder of the season lol

Jim Bowden sits at his desk with nothing better to do than dream up fantasy-world trades. No wonder he’s not a GM anymore.

Yep, just like bloggers, “repected” reporters (and former GM’s) can come up with near-asinine fantasy trades all the time. The nice thing for those “respected” reporters is that they don’t have to do any research into whether or not the other team even wants any Philadelphia castoffs and their bloated contracts, or if they’d even consider trading some of the guys those “respected” reporters want to Phils to get.

The reason Bowden is no longer a GM is probably because he’s making about the same money sitting around daydreaming and visiting the water cooler as he was while trying to run a real team.

Shark, you can read!!! Of course thats what they should do and I’ll bet ya Rube MIGHT get one of those done if any. Call them up, why not we’re toast.

I know we’re Toast this season…And the season next, and the season next. I’m fine with that! I’m even fine with trading everyone on that list, EXCEPT for Utley and Rollins…They are the ONLY two players who ”LOVES” this team and does not want to wear another uniform. The’re great leaders for our younger generation players. They’ll probably even take a pay cut just to stay here and retire here. Besides! What are we getting in return for 2 old guys with 2 maybe 3 years left in the tank? I know Crawford is 1-2 years away, but that’s what doesn’t make sense

But If I had to choose between Rollins and Utley I’d say keep Utley for sure! I wouldn’t even hesitate …We all know Chase isn’t going anywhere
