Yankees In On Bastardo and Byrd

Rumors

According to ESPN’s Jayson Stark, the Yankees have interest in both left-handed reliever Antonio Bastardo and right fielder Marlon Byrd. Bastardo, 28, has struggled at seemingly just the wrong time for the Phillies, ¬†seeing his ERA jump by nearly a point and a half since June 28 with opponents getting on base at a .390 clip since that date. Bastardo appeared to be headed toward another solid season but has certainly sputtered while on his way to the highest innings’ pitched total of his career. ¬†Byrd, meanwhile, is one of just two National League outfielders with 20 or more homers and would immediately improve a Yankees’ right fielding corps that ranks 29th in fWAR with an AL-worst .281 OBP.

We better get someone good for those two. Marlon has been a real.dpark.plug for us and a solid right hand bat to.help Howard.

Marlon is also 36 yrs old too. No, we should not expect to get that much for him if he does get moved.

Great they want those guys, but they have nothing to give or at least they wont give up anything good. Their farm system sux and their available players are over the hill.

I’ve been thinking the Yankees would be the perfect place for a guy like Byrd, but as the comment above points out, you gotta wonder if they have the goods to trade back.

As long as we can get back at least two good, not minimum great, but good or better minor league players who are younger than these guys I would be totally fine with this move. I mean seriously, at age 36, how much longer can Byrd keep this up….

Longer than two stiffs from an even more pathetic farm system than the Phillies.

There’s no reason toad any deal with the Yankees if it’s not for a salary dump. Please recall the return for Bobby Abreu and Corey Lidle.

        I am intrigued by
        Aaron judge OF
        Luis severino P
        Gary Sanchez C
Whether or not they will part with any if those 3 will remain to be seen…

Also don’t forget the Yankees are looking for a top if the rotation guy and have always coveted cliff lee….

Based on their salaries and what they add, these are the last two I want us to trade. Who will be the RH bat/ good corner OF next year?

“Byrd does not have the Yankees on his no-trade clause, but the Yankees don’t seem to love the $8-million salary for next year.

There also may be some doubt as to whether his personality is a good fit for the team.”

Like I have been saying for the past month. It is worthless to trade guys just to trade them. Unless you have a replacement or an idea of a FA to replace a guy you are trading then you are stuck. You can not trade bad players and get good prospects. What is A year and 2 months of Marlon Byrd worth? Certainly not a top prospect.

It’s all about supply and demand that determines what a player is worth

Wow Lester and Gomes to the A’s for cespedes….

Wow, Beane gave up Cespedes for a two month rental? Seems like a lot, but you can’t argue with his success out there.

I think it’s a brilliant deal by Beane! It’s a go for it deal that won’t cost him a long term commitment to a veteran pitcher. He knows he won’t be able to pay Cespedes soon, and he didn’t give up any prospects. He has multiple outfield options, too many actually -when Crisp and Gentry return. Vogt, Moss, Gentry, Crisp, Reddick, Burns- they didn’t need Cespedes. Just from a stats perspective, Vogt might turn out to be the best of that bunch.

Byrd to Oakland to replace Cespedes? It would certainly make sense for Oakland.
