2014 Gameday, Posts

STK-MLB-PHP-P1992-01CardinalsPhiladelphia Phillies (55-71) vs St. Louis Cardinals (69-57)

Starting Pitchers:
PHI: Kyle Kendrick (5-11, 4.90 ERA)
vs.
STL: Adam Wainwright (15-7, 2.40 ERA)

Time: 7:05 ET, Citizens Bank Park
TV: NBC
Weather: Low 70′s, chance of rain
Media: Twitter and Facebook

A Note for Today: Kyle Kendrick has been dreadful lately. He has a 6.80 ERA over his last eight starts, and has been having tons of issues in the first inning. However, Kendrick has surprised us many times in the past with a great outing. Could he pull one of those off tonight? He’ll need it, as the Phillies are going up against arguably the best right-hander in the NL in Adam Wainwright. Also, reminder that tonight’s game is on NBC, not CSN. Also, it’s Star Wars night at the ballpark.

Lineup: Revere CF, Rollins SS, Utley 2B, Howard 1B, Byrd RF, Brown LF, Ruiz C, Asche 3B, Kendrick P

Kendrick is off to his usual shaky start.

The first time I have been able to listen to a game on MLB Audio in months. Score was 3-0 before I was even able to acquire the stream.

The good news is: Kendrick usually settles down after the first when he has an inning like this.

Whew! Kendrick got out of the first with less than 5 runs.

I am sure he is probably “embarrassed” again. OMG hopefully Kendrick is gone by the last day of the season!

I normally start Matt Adams in fantasy, but not tonight. It’s bad karma to hope your guy does well when you don’t really want him to. So naturally he hits a home run, and I dont even get to count the points.

Come on, Lefty. Kendrick is on the hill. Sucky pitching trumps bad karma every day. Even in fantasy.

Stand up for cancer. ‘Cause we hate poverty, war and injustice, unlike the rest of you squares.

And while you’re at it, dump a bucket of ice on your head! Dumbest campaign I ever saw :-)

The ice bucket thing is dumb, but it’s brought in a crapload of money. Of course, cynics complain that they don’t need one-time money; they need ongoing funds, but when you make 10 times the usual annual amount in a few weeks, you can put that in savings and spread it out over a decade.

Of course, I am cynical enough to say that nobody is ever going to cure anything because there is no profit in cures. The real money is in maintenance. I’m paying $36,000 a year for a maintenance drug. Nobody wants to cure me and lose that income.

I didnt know that about the money. I am all for anything that helps a cause and hope I was not insensitive. If dumb ideas that make people do dumb things bring help to the cause im all for itm

Not a problem; I was being insensitive about that “stand up to cancer” thing (and the sign said “stand up FOR cancer” … REALLY???) But Stand Up To Cancer isn’t raising awareness (you’d have to be living under a rock not to know about cancer) and not raising money, and not catching anybody’s attention. It’s just dumb.

The Phillies have sunk so low that we have Star Wars Night at CBP on a Friday night. What’s next the return of $1 beer night?

    Yes Del.

    I am watching the game.

Mets with horrible fielding and fundamentals.

Keith Hernandez may stroke out. lol

    5-1 dodgers in the 8th

Mets lead may be down to 2.5

    we can do this guys!!

    I believe.

Unless you put much credence in Adam Wainwright’s blasé pitching of late, you’d have thought last night’s matchup with the Cards was comparable to Roy Halladay V any NL East opponent back in the day. You see something happen once, there’s a part of any cheerleading type to hope for redundancy. Ryan Howard’s next inside the park homer will have ‘em expecting it multi-fold from that point forward.

Such a developing piece would be same ballpark comparable to one of my favorite Phillie games over the years, although I was a little surprised how much I’d forgotten about it. In May of 2012, with some indications already set forth that the Phils were no longer the Phils, Kyle Kendrick scattered 7 hits, walked none (K’d 4) in a route going 94 pitch shutout of the Cardinals in St. Louis. Kendrick has dome enough teasing over the years that there was usually hope, but what a tremendous performance he gave Charlie and Dubee that night. Typically, fan reaction was not especially congratulatory, more suggestive of trading him off the value will never be higher. There are enough team and individual highlights for KK that if it finally is time for him to move on, which seems the smart thing to do, you can find fond reasons to have appreciated some of his achievements. But nothing matched that one night when you kept waiting for the roof to cave, and KK kept mowing them down.
