On this special Trade Deadline edition of Phillies Nation, Pat and Corey discuss why the Phillies ended up making zero moves. They breakdown trades around the league and analyze how they led to the Phillies standing pat. They also discuss the prospects for making trades after the deadline and explain how the waiver process works.

Matt Stairs (of all people) gives us a lesson on bunting. Kevin Wilson talks about his relationship with Charlie Manuel. And Tommy Greene gives his opinions on players fraternizing with the opposition.

Damn, I’m starting to take this personally. Just as I get home and turn on the TV, all hell breaks loose. A pitcher thrown out for talking? And then Sandberg thrown out?

      What AJ did: he pointed.

He apparently disagreed with a bad ball/strike call before I turned on the TV. Then the ump correctly called a pitch outside and he pointed to where it was. The umpire flipped out and ejected AJ for “showing him up” AJ went up to argue with the ump after being ejected, Sandberg came out and also argued, and Sandberg got ejected too.

I missed it, too. Exactly which finger did AJ use to describe the pitch’s trajectory?

I asked this question last night. Who did they bring up to replace Lee, and why isn’t that pitcher in the game right now.
SURELY they would not try to go with ONLY 4 starters!!!!!

Lefty: Utilizing his personal grasp of sabrmetrics, Ruben concluded the team is a little past halfway through the season and therefore must have slightly less than half their games left to play.

Ergo, if a team needs at least 7 starters in April, Ruben figured they only need 3.5 starters by the beginning of August.

And 3.5 is about what they have left.
So relax. He’s on top of it.

Has Amaro completely lost his mind? You can’t let you’re team go without just for this reason.

Seriously? Phillippe Aumont? Where is the fifth starter? There is no excuse for this.
Lee was hurt two days ago.

I don’t know who the 5th starter is now. Aumont has so little experience that he never had an AB this year before this game.

Two days ago! Not enough time to get someone to DC? I’m losing it Tracy. I didn’t mind that they didnt make any trades, but is anyone running this team?

The Greyhound from Boise to DC only does a run once a week.

Correction! Ruben is replacing Lee in the rotation with Wilson Valdez. He’s due to join the team as soon as the club can find a second rower to take Wilson off the Dominican.

Forget about the rare likelihood that something like this happens. But ballplayers, pitchers do get hurt. How can they not have a fifth starter there?

Im ranting like Andrew now. But Buchanan should be here! This is just absolutely poor front office management. I’m gonna go cool off Tracy, back in a while.

It’s Phillippe freaking Aumont! This is what happens when no one capable is running the ship. No excuse for this, none! I’m outta here. Bad enough that PN doesn’t care anymore but when Amaro sleeps on the job like this, how can they expect the fans to care.

Yeah, they have only 4 starters. And seriously, Lee isn’t going to be back this season.

I hear they offered to pay for Oakland’s soda machine for 50 years if they’d take Aumont. Beane said no dice.

It’s a California team and you know those people out there, Lefty.
Ruben should have offered to stock the machine with agave nectar and celery juice.

And David Buchanan is where exactly?

      Calm down dude.

Buchanan pitched 7+ against Rochester the same night Lee got hurt. Having him on the major league roster Saturday night would have been pointless because he would not have been able to do anything. Aumont was only here because he’s was warm body with an option to burn.

It didn’t have to be Buchanan, just picking the first name that came to mind. They knew early Thursday evening that they needed a “stretched out starter” and failed to act. If Buchanan was not available, then any active stretched out starter would do.

        P.S.
Aumont has been optioned, and Hector Neris, another reliever activated, although he was a starter last season.

        P.S.S.
        I’m calm dude.

Seriously they couldn’t have predicted this? Phillipe Aumont hasnt proved year after year that he is not a major league pitcher? But it’s not his fault tonight. He’s the victim of a horrible circumstance brought on by a horrible management team running this ball club. Now they get to pound the next scrub, the guy I read that they brought up to take Cliff Lee’s place. Unbelievable that they thought they could get away with this. But then again they were so busy making trades this week they probably forgot.

      Sandy Koufax had a 4.10 ERA his first 6 years. : )

Koufax couldn’t even fill Aumont’s cleats.
Seriously. Aumont must wear size 16s.

Ha! As compared to Aumont’s 19.06 this year? Why, he’s got the potential to turn in Tommy Greene like numbers (7.00 career ERA) some day.

If there are seasons of 13-7, 3.38 ERA, and 16-4, 3.42 ERA in Aumont’s future, that would be alright.

He’s got good stuff, and (even if not the Phillies), teams will give him a few years to see if he can put it all together.

On a side Note, Revere’s slugging now only 7 Points lower than howard’s.

It must have been Revere’s home run.
That really is a pathetic stat.

It is pathetic for Howard, though slugging percentage also goes up every time you hit a single.

I couldn’t find the game on TV until the 5th inning. Verizon’s channel guide had it mistakenly listed as “Major League Baseball.”

What the $u$k did I just watch and experience? I know, it was Ruin’s plan of genius unfolding. I could list a litany of examples, but to what end? If tonight’s abysmal suckfest isn’t the final nail that my beloved Phillies are going to be very bad for a long time ( see the 60s and 90s), then Ruin and the entire organization are living in an alternate universe. In the end, I think I’m the idiot for enduring 3 hours of inexplicable “baseball” from a 180 million dollar team, set on an irrevocable course to the giant iceberg.
Hey Ruben, one last thing, Aumont is atrocious.
I want to express my feelings on the trade and upcoming waiver deadline, but my blood pressure reaches unsafe levels.
Thank goodness Cole is pitching tomorrow. Time to go back to writing my epic play, “The Rime of the Ancient Mariner, Part II. Rube is the new mariner with a ship full of albatrosses. A tragedy of dark humor in the making.

I agree, Big Ed, but what ancient Mariner could you possibly be referring to?
The franchise is only 37 years old.

Regarding Aumont, he was really bad last night. I think someone would take him though based on what he did in 2012 for the Phillies. He has shown the potential to be a solid player. It just hasn’t shown lately. Maybe the Phillies could trade him for a similar underachiever.
