Phillies Avoid Arbitration With Revere & Brown, Claim Jordan Danks

Ben Revere Domonic BrownThe Phillies were able to avoid arbitration with a couple of outfielders Friday. Jim Salisbury from CSN.Com is reporting that the Phillies agreed to terms with centerfielder Ben Revere, and left fielder/right fielder Domonic Brown. Both Brown and Revere agreed to one-year deals. The contract numbers for Revere are currently unknown. Domonic Brown will make $2.5 million.

Revere is coming off a season that saw the 26-year old hit .306/.325/.361. The speedy center fielder swiped 49 bases this past season which was good for fourth in Major League Baseball. He even managed to hit not just one, but TWO home runs, showing that he is a five tool player (I kid!!).

UPDATE: Ben Revere will make $4.1 million in 2015. That is a $2.15 million dollar raise from his 2014 salary.

After a 2013 season that saw Domonic Brown emerge as the player Phillies fans were waiting for, he took a huge step back in 2014. In 2013 Domonic Brown hit 27 home runs, for 83 RBI with a slash line of .272/.324/.494 and an All Star nod. In 2014 however, without his hitting guru Wally Joyner, Brown struggled mightily. The 27 year-old hit just 10 home runs, for 63 RBI. His slash line was a Ryan Howard-esque .235/.285/.349.

This is the first year Domonic Brown is arbitration eligible. Brown gets a raise of $1.95 million in 2015.

The fun doesn’t stop there! The Phillies claimed outfielder Jordan Danks off waivers from the Chicago White Sox on Friday. Danks, a 28 year-old who is the brother of White Sox pitcher John Danks, has been a backup outfielder for the White Sox for the past three seasons shuttling between the Majors and AAA. Last season Danks hit .222/.303/.291 in 117 at-bats. He was not much of a speed threat, swiping just 5 bases. He is nothing more than organizational depth but he will have a chance to make the club right out of Spring Training.
