Philadelphia Phillies (34-38) at St. Louis Cardinals (39-35)

Starting Pitchers:
PHI: Cole Hamels (2-3, 2.78)

STL: Adam Wainwright (9-3, 2.15)

TV: CSN
Weather: Cloudy, 87
Media: Twitter and Facebook

A Note for Tonight: The streak continues! Cole Hamels will look to extend the Phillies’ winning streak, in addition to the hot streak of his own.  The Phillies offense won’t have it easy, however, as Adam Wainwright has the second-lowest ERA in the National League. Today has all the makings of  a pitcher’s duel.

Philadelphia Phillies (32-38) at St. Louis Cardinals (39-33)

Time:  8:15 at Busch Stadium

A Note for Tonight: The Phillies are coming off a sweep of the Atlanta Braves, and now head to St. Louis to face another tough team in the Cardinals.  Anytime the Phillies head to St. Louis, all eyes are on Ryan Howard.  Howard is hitting .368 with 9 homers and 35 RBI in 26 games at his hometown stadium.

The Phillies will send David Buchanan to the mound, who really has yet to put together a solid Major League start. He’s done the job at times, but it would be nice to see him put up a decent line of a quality start or better.

After losing a series to one of the worst teams in the National League, the Phillies head to Atlanta to take on the first-place Braves.  Luckily, the Phillies have a hot hand in Cole Hamels on the hill tonight.  Hamels has a 1.78 ERA in his last seven starts, resulting in an ERA drop from 4.43 to 3.07. Hamels is coming off a 7+ inning shutout.  He’ll be opposed by Julio Teheran, who is off to a fantastic start this season.

Gameday 66: Cubs vs. Phillies

Chicago Cubs (26-38) at Philadelphia Phillies (28-36)

Starting Pitchers:

vs.
PHI: David Buchanan (1-3, 6.08)

Time: 3:05, Citizens Bank Park
TV: CSN
Weather: Sunny, 72
Media: Twitter and Facebook

A Note for Tonight: The Phillies are coming off a frustrating 2-1 loss against the  Cubs.  They’ll send rookie David Buchanan to the mound to rebound from last night’s loss.  Buchanan had one bad inning in his last outing that cost him the loss.  After his Major League debut, Buchanan has had his struggles, posting a 6.75 ERA in his last 18 2/3 innings.

Jimmy Rollins is one hit away from passing Mike Schmidt as the Phillies’ all-time leader in hits.

Lineup: Revere CF/ Rollins SS/ Utley 2B/ Howard 1B/ Byrd RF/ Brown LF/ Ruiz/ Brignac 3B/ Buchanan P

Gameday 65: Cubs vs. Phillies

phillies

Chicago Cubs (26-38) at Philadelphia Phillies (28-36)

Starting Pitchers:
CHI: Jake Arrieta (1-1, 2.50)
vs.
PHI: Roberto Hernandez (2-4, 4.35)

Time: 7:05, Citizens Bank Park
TV: CSN
Weather: Chance of Thunderstorms, 73
Media: Twitter and Facebook

A Note for Tonight: The Phillies just swept a team with a poor record, and now they face another team who sits in the cellar of their division. The Cubs are the only team in the National League with less wins than the Phillies. A win tonight would give the Phillies a season-high four-game winning streak. Another sweep would be important for Philadelphia, as they need to prove they are better than a last-place caliber team.

Also, Jimmy Rollins is two hits away from passing Mike Schmidt as the Phillies’ all-time leader in hits.

Lineup: Gwynn CF, Rollins SS, Utley 2B, Howard 1B, Byrd RF, Brown LF, Ruiz C, Brignac 3B, Kendrick P

Gameday 63: Padres at Phillies

phillies

other

San Diego Padres (28-36) at Philadelphia Phillies (26-36)

Starting Pitchers:
SD: Tyson Ross (6-5, 3.22)
vs.
PHI: Cole Hamels (2-3, 3.49)

Time: 7:05, Citizens Bank Park
TV: CSN
Weather: Chance of Rain, 68
Media: Twitter and Facebook

A Note for Tonight:

Cole Hamels is coming off an excellent start against the Cincinnati Reds, who he shutout in 7.2 innings.  Hamels has had a history of dominating the Reds, and he will once again face a team who he has had career success against.  In 14 career starts, Hamels is 8-2 with a 2.39 ERA against the San Diego Padres.

After his victory against the Reds, Hamels was quoted to say: “Any time I’m here and going up against that team, it’s what I associate: those positive memories. That kind of jumpstarts it.”

Hamels’ statement is important tonight. He faces another team who he knows he has success against. There’s a good chance that he will gain confidence for tonight’s game knowing that he does well against the Padres.  Baseball is just as mental as it is physical, so those “positive memories” should do Hamels good.

Lineup: Revere CF / Rollins SS / Utley 2B / Howard 1B / Byrd RF / Brown LF / Ruiz C / Brignac 3B / Hamels P
