Gameday 123: Phillies at Giants

Posted by Brian Michael, Sat, August 16, 2014 03:20 PM Comments: 11

phillies Giants

Philadelphia Phillies (54-68) at San Francisco Giants (63-58)

Starting Pitchers:
PHI: Kyle Kendrick (5-11, 4.88 ERA)
vs.
SFG: Tim Hudson (8-9, 2.81 ERA)

Time: 4:05 ET, AT&T Park
TV: CSN
Weather: 66, Partly cloudy
Media: Twitter and Facebook

A Note for Today:

Here are some pitcher-batter splits for today.

Chase Utley is 5-for-his-last-8 with a home run against Giants starter Tim Hudson. As we know Ryan Howard is a Hudson-killer. He has faced the righty more than anyone else in his career (80 PAs) and sports a .328 average and 1.112 OPS against him. Hudson is responsible for 7 of Howard’s 329 career homers, only Chris Volstad has allowed more (8).

Buster Posey is 4-for-7 lifetime versus Kyle Kendrick while Brandon Crawford is 3 for 6 over the past three years against KK.

Lineup:  Revere CF / Rollins SS / Utley 2B / Howard 1B / Byrd RF / Brown LF / Nieves C / Asche 3B / Kendrick P

Gameday 122: Phillies at Giants

phillies Giants

Philadelphia Phillies (53-68) at San Francisco Giants (63-57)

Starting Pitchers:
PHI: Cole Hamels (6-6, 2.37 ERA)
vs.
SFG: Madison Bumgarner (13-9, 3.22 ERA)

Time: 10:15 ET, AT&T Park
TV: CSN
Weather: 72, Partly cloudy
Media: Twitter and Facebook

A Note for Today:

The Phillies could use a win and Cole Hamels is certainly their best chance.  He’s been impressive lately with a 3-1 record and a 0.73 ERA in his last five games.   In each of those games, he’s gone seven innings and hasn’t allowed more than one run.  On the flip side, Madison Bumgarner has been less than stellar at home recently.  He’s looking to improve upon a 1-3 record and 6.99 ERA in his last five starts at home.

Lineup:  Revere CF / Rollins SS / Utley 2B / Howard 1B / Byrd RF / Ruiz C / Ruf LF / Asche 3B / Hamels P

Gameday 121: Phillies at Angels

phillies

other

Philadelphia Phillies (53-67) at Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim (69-49)

Starting Pitchers:
PHI: A.J. Burnett (6-12, 4.29)
vs.
LAA: Jered Weaver (12-7, 3.68)

Time: 10:05, Angel Stadium of Anaheim
TV: CSN
Weather: Sunny, 79
Media: Twitter and Facebook

A Note for Tonight:

Every time Phillies starter A.J. Burnett takes the hill this month Phillies fans know it could be his last with the club. Burnett has been centered around trade talks since mid June, and we are two and a half weeks away from the waiver trade deadline. Burnett has just six wins this season, and win number seven is going to be tough. The Angels enter tonight’s game 20 games over .500 and they are sending their ace pitcher (Jered Weaver) to the bump tonight.

Marlon Byrd is another trade piece the Phillies have, and he has some success against Weaver in his career. In 25 career at-bats against Weaver Byrd is hitting .320. Marlon Byrd is third among Major League right fielders in home runs & runs batted in. Byrd is also ranked fifth in slugging, and is ranked 6th in WAR. Byrd would have already been dealt if it was not for a ridiculous vesting option. He was claimed on waivers last week and was not traded, meaning any trade for Byrd would likely happen in the offseason.

Lineup: Revere CF / Rollins SS / Utley 2B / Howard 1B / Byrd DH / Sizemore RF / Brown LF / Ruiz C / Asche 3B

Gameday 117: Mets and Phillies

Posted by Amanda Orr, Sun, August 10, 2014 01:00 PM Comments: 17

phillies other

New York Mets (56-61) at Philadelphia Phillies (52-65)

Starting Pitchers:
NYM: Zack Wheeler (7-8, 3.48)
vs.
PHI: Kyle Kendrick (5-11, 4.74)

Time: 1:35, Citizens Bank Park
TV: CSN
Weather: 82, Partly Cloudy
Media: Twitter and Facebook

A Note for Today: The Mets took last night’s game in 11 innings.  Hamels pitched seven strong innings, but once again it wasn’t enough for the win.  The offense was silenced with the lone run coming off a Carlos Ruiz homer.  The Phillies will try to rebound from the 2-1 loss.

Kyle Kendrick will get the start today.  Kendrick is coming off a decent start against the Astros where he allowed one run in seven innings. He’ll be opposed by Zack Wheeler, who was once a top prospect in the Mets organization.

Lineup:  Revere CF /Rollins SS / Utley 2B / Howard 1B /Sizemore RF / Brown LF/ Nieves C/ Asche 3B /Kendrick P.

Gameday 116: Mets at Phillies

Posted by Amanda Orr, Sat, August 09, 2014 06:22 PM Comments: 13

phillies other

New York Mets (55-61) at Philadelphia Phillies (52-64)

Starting Pitchers:
NYM: Dillon Gee (4-4, 3.73)
vs.
PHI: Cole Hamels (6-6, 2.42)

Time: 7:05, Citizens Bank Park
TV: CSN
Weather: 82, Partly Cloudy
Media: Twitter and Facebook

A Note for Today: The Phillies couldn’t pull off the miracle comeback in yesterday’s 5-4 loss to the Mets.  Cole Hamels is on the mound tonight, and he’s been one of the sole reasons to continue to watch this team.  However, tonight isn’t all about the Phillies vs. Mets; it’s about the induction of Charlie Manuel into the Phillies Wall of Fame. Manuel managed the Phillies from 2005-2013, leading them to a World Championship in 2008.  He took the Phillies to the postseason five times. Manuel finished his career with 1,000 wins, and will go on the Wall as one of the Phillies’ all-time greatest managers.

Lineup:  Revere CF /Rollins SS / Utley 2B / Howard 1B / Byrd RF / Brown LF/ Ruiz C/ Asche 3B /Hamels P.

Gameday 115: Mets vs. Phillies

Posted by Amanda Orr, Fri, August 08, 2014 06:13 PM Comments: 15

phillies other

New York Mets (54-61) at Philadelphia Phillies (52-63)

Starting Pitchers:
NYM: Bartolo Colon (10-9, 4.12)
vs.
PHI: A.J. Burnett (6-11, 4.16)

Time: 7:05, Citizens Bank Park
TV: CSN
Weather: 82, Partly Cloudy
Media: Twitter and Facebook

A Note for Today: The Phillies and Mets are both trying to avoid a last-place finish in the National League East.  The Phillies are coming off a sweep of the Houston Astros.  The New York Mets have lost five of their last seven, however those losses were against contending teams.

On the mound for the Mets is Bartolo Colon, who is going for his 200th career win.  He will be opposed by A.J. Burnett, who has had an up-and-down season thus far.  Burnett has been on the struggling side as of late, allowing 12 runs in his last 6 and 2/3 innings of work.

Lineup:  Revere CF /Rollins SS / Utley 2B / Howard 1B / Byrd RF / Sizemore LF/ Ruiz C/ Asche 3B /Burnett P.

Houston Astros (47-66) at Philadelphia Phillies (50-63)

Starting Pitchers:
HOU: Brad Peacock (3-7, 4.93)
vs.
PHI: David Buchanan (5-5, 4.40)

Time: 7:05, Citizens Bank Park
TV: CSN
Weather: Thunder storms, 82
Media: Twitter and Facebook

A Note for Tonight:

If you are a fan of free baseball than you must love the 2014 Philadelphia Phillies. The Phillies won in the 15th inning last night against the Houston Astros 2-1. That is the fifth game this season that has gone 14 innings or more which ties a 1958 franchise record. The Phillies currently lead the Major Leagues in innings played. Lucky us!

The Phillies will be facing former top prospect Brad Peacock, who has never put it all together at the Major League level. Opposing hitters are teeing off on Peacock this season hitting .272. Because this has the makings of a big Phillies win, Peacock will likely go out and pitch a no-hitter.

Lineup: Revere CF / Rollins SS / Utley 2B / Howard 1B / Byrd RF / Sizemore LF / Nieves C / Asche 3B / Buchanan P

Starting Pitchers:

PHI: Kyle Kendrick (5-11, 4.92)

Time: 7:05, Citizens Bank Park
TV: CSN
Weather: Sunny, 82
Media: Twitter and Facebook

A Note for Tonight:

The three game series between the Phillies and the Astros could easily be the battle of the awfully bad teams. Both teams have terrible records, and both are likely looking at top five picks in next June’s MLB Draft. Luckily for the Phillies Astros rookie sensation George Springer will be out the entire series as he is rehabbing a quad injury. The Phillies will however say hello to a few farm hands they traded away in the Hunter Pence trade. Jonathan Singleton will be at first base for the Astros. And the player to be named later in the Pence trade, Domingo Santana, just got called up from AAA Oklahoma.

Lineup: Revere CF / Rollins SS / Utley 2B / Howard 1B / Byrd RF / Ruiz C / Ruf LF / Asche 3B / Kendrick P
