Join the Philadelphia Sports Writers Association on January 30 as they hand out awards to local athletes and teams during their 108th annual banquet.

Among the winners is Phillies outfielder Hunter Pence, the recipient of this years “Good Guy Award.” The Philadelphia Phillies were named “Team of the Year” for their 102-win season and playoff berth.

He also joins an outstanding lineup at this year’s awards dinner, including Flyers center Claude Giroux (Pro Athlete of the Year) and Villanova cross country star Shelia Reid (Outstanding Amateur Athlete). The Phillies will be honored as the Team of the Year, and both Phillies manager Charlie Manuel and Flyers coach Peter Laviolette will be in attendance.

Other awards, including Living Legend, Native Son and Humanitarian of the Year, among others, will be announced in coming weeks, as will a couple of memorable surprise presentations and some “Special Achievement” awards. The most coveted award—Most Courageous—is kept secret until the night of the dinner.

Comedian Joe Conklin will also perform at the dinner, the oldest continuing sports awards banquet in the nation.

The public is welcome at the dinner. Tickets are $95 apiece, and are available by clicking here.

Doors to the banquet open at 5 p.m.. with the dinner starting promptly at 6:30 p.m.

McFadden’s at the Ballpark is having a Jersey-style blowout on Super Bowl Sunday.

The afternoon kicks off with a pre-game party featuring the cast of Jerseylicious. Then at 5pm, the competition begins for McFadden’s Annual Beer Tub Team Tryouts.

Join special guest judges – including our own Pat Gallen – to help pick the team of ladies who will be serving your icy cold aluminum bottles all throughout the 2012 Phillies season.

Wanna see Chooch, Mayberry, and Stutes? Well you can this weekend.

John Mayberry Jr. and Michael Stutes will be appearing at the Sports Cave in the Shops at Liberty Place, 1625 Chestnut Street, Friday, September 16 from 1 – 2:30 pm. Tickets ate $20 for one autograph of one player. A combination package for both players is available for $35 – that includes one autograph of each. The price includes a certificate of authenticity.

Carlos Ruiz will be appearing at the Sports Cave in the Shops at Liberty Place, 1625 Chestnut Street on Saturday, September 17th. Chooch will be there from 11:30 – 1 pm and tickets are $75 for one autograph of any item, which includes a certificate of authenticity.

The Sports Cave is also offering 20 percent off its normal framing prices for anyone who would like their Carlos Ruiz, Michael Stutes or John Mayberry, Jr. 8×10 or 16×20 autographed photo framed and matted. Your photo will be professionally framed and matted for $24 for an 8×10 and $56 for your 16×20.

DC Game Watching Party

Join us at the Sign of the Whale on M Street for another Phillies game watching party.

Come to the upstairs bar where guest bartenders, Brian Michael and Clinton from DC Metro Eagles, will be serving up drink specials throughout the game.

The Phils will be playing the D-backs in Philly so the game starts at 7pm. Cliff Lee is slated to start.

Phillies McFlurry Launch Party

Monday, August 22 from 3:00pm to 6:00pm
McDonald’s – 120 West Oregon Avenue – Philadelphia

To celebrate the launch the new Phillies McFlurry, Ronald McDonald and the Phillie Phanatic will be at the South Philadelphia McDonald’s on Front and Oregon Streets on Monday, August 22, from 3-6 p.m.

Customers will have a chance to sample the new Phillies McFlurry.

In addition, the first 100 customers to purchase a Phillies McFlurry will receive a McDonald’s-branded Phillies shirt, while supplies last!

2011 Garry Maddox BBQ Challenge

Saturday, August 13 · 4:30pm – 7:00pm
At Citizens Bank Park

The Barbecue Challenge features two categories for competition: one for restaurants, and one for pit masters (any individual barbecue enthusiast or team of enthusiasts not competing under the sponsorship of a restaurant). In both divisions, chefs vie for first through third place and honorable mention in three categories—chicken, ribs, and chef’s choice. The day ends with Garry’s Rib Challenge, a winner-take-all competition for a trip to the 2011 World Series. In this event highlight, there is no distinction between restaurants and pit masters: the single highest overall score wins!
