Last week, the Phillies Nation crew took our annual pilgramage to Clearwater, FL for some sun and spring training action. This year’s trip was organized by our friends at Major League Vacations and it was awesome. Here are some photos from the May 16th game at Bright House Field as well as a few more of new tailgate friends and a beautiful beach sunset.

Remembering Harry Kalas

Posted by Brian Michael, Sat, April 13, 2013 01:00 PM Comments: 2

3451052833_824e04032e_oOn this day in 2009, Harry Kalas passed away. He was 73 and just about to call the Nationals home opener against the Phillies.

Living in DC at the time, I remember the day vividly. I had plans to go to the game that night, when I heard the news that Harry collapsed in the broadcast booth. He died shortly after. I still went to the game, not knowing what to except. The walk up to the park certainly felt different from other days. Fellow fans were wearing make-shift memorials on their shirts, many were crying, but all had empty looks on their faces, undoubtedly matching the emptiness that now exists in our hearts and ears.

But as sad as that day was, it’s hard not to remember Harry Kalas without a smile on your face. If Harry wasn’t providing the good times himself, he was usually part of it in some way – bantering with Whitey, calling a great moment in Phillies history, or simply his baritone voice in the background as you went about your evening. His greatness will live on forever.

Please enjoy some memories from our wonderful friend below and visit our Harry Kalas tribute page with many more.

Solo Homers Not Enough, Phils Lose In Extras

Posted by Kieran Carobine, Sat, June 09, 2012 09:34 PM Comments: 22

The Phillies one game win streak was short lived as the Orioles won their eighth straight extra inning game with an Adam Jones homer in the bottom of the 12th inning.

Behind the solo efforts from Jimmy Rollins, Jim Thome and Hector Luna the Phillies couldn’t put together enough run scoring chances to put the Orioles away.

Vance Worley suffered from unearned run syndrome today allowing three runs, one earned, in six innings.  Worley struck out five while only walking one and seems to be getting stronger since coming off the DL.

Hunter Pence had his first four hit game in a Phillies uniform going 4 for 5 with four singles.  Juan Pierre, Thome and Luna added two hits each for the Phillies.

This was a frustrating game to watch.  A 6-4 loss in 12 innings is not how I thought this game would end.  The Phillies committed three errors in the fourth inning and I, as a fan, never quite recovered.  B.J. Rosenberg added the final nail giving up the home run to Jones to end the game.

Sorry for the short recap.  It’s a tough loss. Especially with a team that is now seven games back in the NL East.  Cliff Lee is on the mound tomorrow.

Here are some photos Brian took from the game and around Baltimore:

Photos from DC Trip

Posted by Brian Michael, Sun, May 06, 2012 11:00 AM Comments: 1

Despite the Phillies loss yesterday, the Phillies Nation party in DC was a monumental success. A huge thanks to our friends Quimby, Marylin and the crew of Phils Fever for orchestrating the event – 13 buses and over 800 people made the trip. Here are a few photos from the pregame tailgate. (It’s always fun to get a new Phillies tattoo photo!)

Here are the rest of the photos from mine and Pat’s excellent adventure in Clearwater. Check out some of the video footage in the latest episode of Phillies Nation TV.

Among the latest photos are ones from: the awesome St. Patrick’s Day tailgate party hosted by Phils Fever; a minor league game featuring Jim Thome and Phillies catching prospect, Bob Stumpo (also my cousin); a Phillies-Pirates game in Bradenton, FL; and a Phillies-Braves game from Bright House Field.
