Philadelphia Phillies (72-86) at Atlanta Braves (93-65)washington_nationals_logo-9726

Tyler Cloyd (2-6, 5.40) vs David Hale (0-0, 0.00)

Time: 7:10, Turner Field
TV: CSN
Weather: 70, mostly clear
Media: Twitter and Facebook

It’s the final series of what has been a long and disheartening regular season. There’s been some ups, there’s been some downs (WAY more downs), but the finish line is in sight, as the Phils put a cap on 2013 with four at the hated Braves.

The less than impressive Tyler Cloyd takes the ball for the Phils, while David Hale makes his second start of the season for the Braves.

No Chase in the lineup tonight, so that’s a bummer.

Lineup: Hernandez CF, Rollins SS, Brown LF, Ruf RF, Frandsen 1B, Asche 3B, Kratz C, Galvis 2B, Cloyd P

Your gameday beer: Angry Orchard Traditional

Fall is here and there is no better time to cuddle up with a hard cider while you soak in the last Phillies memories of 2013. Though technically not a beer, Angry Orchard provides a full taste and a bite that will quell your urge for a cold one after a long day of work. Grab a sixer, take a moment to notice the slight changes you’re starting to see in the leaves, and begin bidding the Phils farewell.

Gameday: Phillies (71-83) vs. Marlins (57-99)

Weather: Overcast, 84
Media: Twitter and Facebook

Either tonight or Saturday could be Roy Halladay’s last start as a Philadelphia Phillie.  Perhaps a strong performance might tilt the scales towards the Phillies resigning him.  He is looking to give the Marlins their 100th loss on an embarassing year.  Yet, it’s safe to say that both teams are already booking their tee times for next week.

Lineup:  Hernandez CF, Rollins SS, Utley 2B, Ruiz C, Brown LF, Ruf 1B, Asche 3B, Bernadina CF, Halladay P

Landshark Lager

Gameday beer: Landshark Lager

This clear-bottled beer is Jimmy Buffet’s answer to Corona.  Speaking of which, when is he going to buy the Marlins?  Anyway the beer is light, airy and bubbly and goes great with a hot summer afternoon.  Just imagine the next time the Phillies return to Florida after this series…it will be Spring Training in Clearwater.

It’s the last home game of the season: fan appreciation day!  Fans might not appreciate the 2013 Phillies club that much compared to the teams in recent years, but one thing they can appreciate is today’s starter, Cliff Lee.  Lee has been unbelievable this season, as his ERA has dropped below three.  Lee has made the season bearable, with his impressive starts every five days.  Yes, he did have a rough patch during the mid-summer months, but he has truly been unstoppable as of late.  It’s a shame Lee is having such a magnificent year while the rest of the team struggles, but the fans will take any positive they can get at this point.

Soak it in: after today there will be no baseball played at Citizens Bank Park until 2014.

Go Phillies!

Gameday: Phillies (71-82) vs Mets (69-84)

Time: 7:05Citizens Bank Park
TV:
CSN
Weather: Chance of rain, 70′s
Media: Twitter and Facebook

With last night’s loss, the Phillies will officially finish the season under the .500 mark.  They haven’t had a losing season since 2002.  It has been quite awhile since the Phillies found themselves in this position, but these losing seasons allow the fans to be more appreciative of the winning seasons.  And for the young kids who have yet to experience the  misery of their favorite team losing, they will get a taste of what we all grew accustomed to when we were young.  Losing is all part of the Philadelphia fan package… but we love our sports teams no matter what.  That’s why we’re here today watching a meaningless baseball game: our passion for the team and the sport.

Now onto tonight’s matchup: Tyler Cloyd gets the start for the Phillies.  He’s struggled in his past two starts, not making it past the fourth inning.  Cloyd will be opposed by Dillon Gee, who has stepped up since Matt Harvey got injured. Gee has a 2.45 ERA in his last 10 starts.

Philadelphia Phillies (71-80) vs. Miami Marlins (55-96)

Zach Miner (0-1, 3.72) vs. Nate Eovaldi (3-6, 3.80)

Time: 7:05, Citizens Bank Park
TV:
CSN
Weather: Sunny, 61
Media: Twitter and Facebook

No Kyle Kendrick tonight, he’s been replaced by Zach Miner after an MRI on his shoulder showed tendinitis. It doesn’t sound too serious, he could make his final two starts.

Other than that, things pretty much remain the same. Two baseball teams finishing out the string.

Lineup: Hernandez CF, Rollins SS, Utley 2B, Ruiz C, Brown LF, Ruf 1B, Asche 3B, Bernadina RF, Halladay P

download (2)Gameday Beer: Rogue Voodoo Maple Bacon Ale

Wow, not sure what to do with this. It sounds like it could be the worst thing ever or the greatest thing ever. Whenever bacon is involved, I’m usually there. According to Rogue, this unique artisan creation contains a baker’s dozen number of ingredients including bacon and maple syrup from one of Voodoo’s signature doughnuts.Never had a voodoo doughnut, but I’d imagine it being pretty good. How’s it taste in beer form? If you can find it, let me know – PG

Philadelphia Phillies (68-79) vs. Washington Nationals (78-69)

Cole Hamels (7-13, 3.45) vs. Gio Gonzalez (10-6, 3.31)

Time: 7:05 ET, Nationals Park
TV:
CSN
Weather: Partly cloudy, 70′s
Media: Twitter and Facebook

It was already a foregone conclusion, but the Phillies were officially eliminated from playoff contention today when the Reds won. Obviously, that means nothing, because this team has been expecting elimination since shortly after the All Star Break.

Cole Hamels will get the ball tonight for the Phillies, and Gio Gonzalez will start for the Nats.

Lineup: Hernandez CF, Rollins SS, Utley 2B, Ruiz C, Ruf 1B, Asche 3B, Galvis LF, Mayberry RF, Hamels P

download (2)Gameday Beer: Orval Trappist Ale

I’ve said it before, monks know how to brew beers and this Belgian Pale Ale is no exception. First it hits you with a apple/pear scent then a complex taste of citrus, caramel, and earthy yeast – all in a creamy buttery consistency. Wow. I hear it goes well with Thai food, but this is certainly one you can drink alone. - By Brian

The Phillies head to DC tonight as they start a three-game set with the Nationals. Stephen Strasburg was scheduled to start tonight, but he’s been scratched with arm issues. For the Phillies, Kyle Kendrick will take the mound.

Lineup: Hernandez CF, Rollins SS, Utley 2B,Ruiz C, Ruf RF, Asche 3B, Frandsen 1B, Galvis LF, Kendrick P

Your gameday beer: Anchor Steam Liberty Ale

A special top-fermenting ale yeast is used during fermentation and is responsible for many of Liberty Ale’s subtle flavors and characteristics. Carbonation is produced by an entirely natural process called “bunging,” which produces champagne-like bubbles. Enjoy with some steaks on the grill for today’s game.

Gameday: Phillies (67-78) vs Padres (66-78)

Posted by Jonathan Nisula, Thu, September 12, 2013 06:23 PM Comments: 12

Philadelphia Phillies (67-78) vs. San Diego Padres (66-78)

Roy Halladay (3-4, 7.19 ) vs. Tyson Ross (3-7, 2.79 )

Time: 7:05 ET, Citizens Bank Park
TV:
CSN
Weather: Cloudy, stormy
Media: Twitter and Facebook

Roy Halladay is coming off a start in which he only allowed one run over six innings, but had some serious command issues. He’ll look to fix those issues tonight, as long as the weather holds up. There’s storms in the area, as a cold front moves in, and we could be looking at a delay of some sort tonight.

Opposing him will be some guy named Tyson Ross. I’ve honestly never heard of him before, but he’s got some pretty good numbers this year. He’s made 12 starts this year, but has appeared in 31 games. He has an ERA of 2.79 in 103.1 IP. He’s thrown 2 2/3 scoreless innings against the Phillies this year in relief.

Lineup: Hernandez CF, Rollins SS, Utley 2B, Ruiz C, Ruf RF, Asche 3B, Frandsen 1B, Galvis LF, Halladay P

Gameday Beer: Shock Top Belgian White

The Phillies aren’t making many fans happy lately, so why not make up for it with a tasty beer to go with tonight’s game? Shock Top Belgian White is a great choice if you’re looking for something smooth and delicious. It’s sure to put a smile on your face. – Jon

Philadelphia Phillies (66-78) vs. San Diego Padres (66-77)

Cliff Lee (12-6, 3.01) vs. Eric Stults (8-13, 4.07)

Time: 7:05 ET, Citizens Bank Park
TV:
CSN
Weather: Hazy/Warm, 91
Media: Twitter and Facebook

Cliff Lee’s quiet dominance continues, and with another solid outing, he can find his ERA in the two’s. According to my boy Corey Seidman, it would be the first time in the two’s since July. He’ll be dealing with heat and humidity; hittin’ weather as Charlie used to call it.

Chase Utley gets a night off with the lefty Eric Stults on the hill. Ryne Sandberg has mentioned that he’d like to get his veterans time off down the stretch.

Ryne Sandberg also told us today how he got his name. He was named after Ryne Duren, a Yankees pitcher in the 50′s. Did you know that?

Lineup: Hernandez CF, Rollins SS, Frandsen 1B, Ruiz C, Ruf LF, Asche 3B, Galvis 2B, Mayberry RF, Lee P

GAMEDAY BEER: Sly Fox Octoberfest

Had this Sly Fox version of Octoberfest last night and it was tasty. One thing that turns me off about the October brews is the spice. Sly Fox held off on that and made it drinkable.  -PG

Gameday: Phillies (66-77) vs. Padres (65-77)

Philadelphia Phillies (66-77) vs. San Diego Padres (65-77)

Time: 7:05 ET, Citizens Bank Park
TV:

Weather: Hazy/Warm, 88
Media: Twitter and Facebook

Cameron Rupp will get his first major league start. Got a chance to watch this kid in BP and he can hit a heavy ball. If he can prove to be a an asset for the remainder of the season, the Phillies could look to him to be part of their catching rotation in 2014.

Ryne Sandberg is giving him the start to pair him with Tyler Cloyd, since the two are familiar with each other.

Saw Dom Brown shagging flies in the outfield and taking BP today. He didn’t look to be limping on that sore right Achilles tendon. Sandberg said he hopes to have him back soon.

GAMEDAY BEER: Lagunitas Lucky 13′

I’ve yet to have a bad beer from Lagunitas. The Cali-based brewer sets the bar high with Lucky 13, what they call a super-hoppy-mondo-ale. Not the biggest fan of overly-hoppy drinks, but this one will certainly do. Cook up some brats on the grill, because the weather won’t stay this way much longer. -PG
