Philadelphia Phillies (69-80) vs. Miami Marlins (55-94)

Cliff Lee (13-6, 2.97)vs. Sam Dyson (0-0, 4.50)

Time: 7:05, Citizens Bank Park
TV:
CSN
Weather: Cloudy, 63
Media: Twitter and Facebook

Cliff Lee, one of the few true bright spots of this Phillies team, looks for win #14 tonight. With 1/3 of an inning, Lee will hit the 200 inning plateau for the sixth straight year. He’s been one of the steadiest pitchers in baseball during that time, yet he sort of flies under the radar because of how this team has taken a nosedive.

I know Monday Night Football is on, but do yourself a favor and flip between the Phils and the Bengals/Steelers game. Who knows how much longer Lee will be in his prime and we should take in the fact that he’s still pitching at a supreme level.

Lineup: Hernandez CF, Rollins SS, Utley 2B, Ruiz C, Brown, LF, Ruf 1B, Asche 3B, Bernadina RF, Lee P

download (2)Gameday Beer: Rogue Dead Guy Ale

In the style of a German Maibock, Rogue Dead Guy uses Pacman ale yeast. It’s deep honey in color with a malty aroma and a rich hearty flavor. It’s really good, too. As Edgar Allan Poe once said, “Who cares how time advances? I am drinking ale today.” Gotta love that. Spend it drinking a 22 oz. bottle of this. -PG

Time: 7:05 ET, Nationals Park
TV:
CSN
Weather: Partly cloudy, 70′s
Media: Twitter and Facebook

The Phillies head to DC tonight as they start a three-game set with the Nationals. Stephen Strasburg was scheduled to start tonight, but he’s been scratched with arm issues. For the Phillies, Kyle Kendrick will take the mound.

Lineup: Hernandez CF, Rollins SS, Utley 2B,Ruiz C, Ruf RF, Asche 3B, Frandsen 1B, Galvis LF, Kendrick P

Your gameday beer: Anchor Steam Liberty Ale

A special top-fermenting ale yeast is used during fermentation and is responsible for many of Liberty Ale’s subtle flavors and characteristics. Carbonation is produced by an entirely natural process called “bunging,” which produces champagne-like bubbles. Enjoy with some steaks on the grill for today’s game.

Gameday: Phillies (67-78) vs Padres (66-78)

Philadelphia Phillies (67-78) vs. San Diego Padres (66-78)

Roy Halladay (3-4, 7.19 ) vs. Tyson Ross (3-7, 2.79 )

Time: 7:05 ET, Citizens Bank Park
TV:
CSN
Weather: Cloudy, stormy
Media: Twitter and Facebook

Roy Halladay is coming off a start in which he only allowed one run over six innings, but had some serious command issues. He’ll look to fix those issues tonight, as long as the weather holds up. There’s storms in the area, as a cold front moves in, and we could be looking at a delay of some sort tonight.

Opposing him will be some guy named Tyson Ross. I’ve honestly never heard of him before, but he’s got some pretty good numbers this year. He’s made 12 starts this year, but has appeared in 31 games. He has an ERA of 2.79 in 103.1 IP. He’s thrown 2 2/3 scoreless innings against the Phillies this year in relief.

Lineup: Hernandez CF, Rollins SS, Utley 2B, Ruiz C, Ruf RF, Asche 3B, Frandsen 1B, Galvis LF, Halladay P

Gameday Beer: Shock Top Belgian White

The Phillies aren’t making many fans happy lately, so why not make up for it with a tasty beer to go with tonight’s game? Shock Top Belgian White is a great choice if you’re looking for something smooth and delicious. It’s sure to put a smile on your face. – Jon

Philadelphia Phillies (66-78) vs. San Diego Padres (66-77)

Cliff Lee (12-6, 3.01) vs. Eric Stults (8-13, 4.07)

Time: 7:05 ET, Citizens Bank Park
TV:
CSN
Weather: Hazy/Warm, 91
Media: Twitter and Facebook

Cliff Lee’s quiet dominance continues, and with another solid outing, he can find his ERA in the two’s. According to my boy Corey Seidman, it would be the first time in the two’s since July. He’ll be dealing with heat and humidity; hittin’ weather as Charlie used to call it.

Chase Utley gets a night off with the lefty Eric Stults on the hill. Ryne Sandberg has mentioned that he’d like to get his veterans time off down the stretch.

Ryne Sandberg also told us today how he got his name. He was named after Ryne Duren, a Yankees pitcher in the 50′s. Did you know that?

Lineup: Hernandez CF, Rollins SS, Frandsen 1B, Ruiz C, Ruf LF, Asche 3B, Galvis 2B, Mayberry RF, Lee P

GAMEDAY BEER: Sly Fox Octoberfest

Had this Sly Fox version of Octoberfest last night and it was tasty. One thing that turns me off about the October brews is the spice. Sly Fox held off on that and made it drinkable.  -PG

Cameron Rupp will get his first major league start. Got a chance to watch this kid in BP and he can hit a heavy ball. If he can prove to be a an asset for the remainder of the season, the Phillies could look to him to be part of their catching rotation in 2014.

Ryne Sandberg is giving him the start to pair him with Tyler Cloyd, since the two are familiar with each other.

Saw Dom Brown shagging flies in the outfield and taking BP today. He didn’t look to be limping on that sore right Achilles tendon. Sandberg said he hopes to have him back soon.

GAMEDAY BEER: Lagunitas Lucky 13′

I’ve yet to have a bad beer from Lagunitas. The Cali-based brewer sets the bar high with Lucky 13, what they call a super-hoppy-mondo-ale. Not the biggest fan of overly-hoppy drinks, but this one will certainly do. Cook up some brats on the grill, because the weather won’t stay this way much longer. -PG

Gameday: Braves (85-55) vs. Phillies (64-77)

Time: 7:05 ET, Citizens Bank Park

Weather: 75, mostly sunny
Media: Twitter and Facebook

Cliff Lee pitched a gem last night, and Cody Asche provided the big hit to propel the Phillies to a 2-1 victory.

Tonight, Kyle Kendrick will be opposed by Alex Wood, who is coming off a rough start.  Wood, just 22 years of age, was drafted out of the University of Georgia in the second round of last year’s draft.  He dominated his way through the minor leagues, posting a 1.74 ERA in 24 starts on all levels.  Since his callup in May, he has faced the Phillies a few times, including one start, and fared pretty well.  It will be interesting to see how the rookie rebounds after an awful start against Miami, where he allowed seven runs  in less than three innings.

Lineup: Hernandez CF, Frandsen 1B, Utley 2B, Ruiz C, Ruf LF, Asche 3B, Galvis SS, Mayberry RF, Kendrick P.

Gameday: Braves (85-54) vs. Phillies (63-77)

With 84 wins, the Atlanta Braves have the best record in baseball.  First place is safe for the Braves, as they have a significant 14-game lead over the Washington Nationals.  Their magic number to clinch the National League East is set at ten, which is the lowest in the majors.  Atlanta is getting ready for a postseason push, but first they have seven games left against Philadelphia.

September Phillies baseball might not be as meaningful as it has been in recent years, but it gives us a chance to see what the younger players can bring.  Fans also get to enjoy Cliff Lee, as he rarely disappoints.  Lee hit a little bit of a rough patch in the middle of the summer, but he has improved over his last five starts, posting a 2.91 ERA.

Philadelphia Phillies (63-76) at Washinton Nationals (70-68)

TIME: 7:05 ET, Citizens Bank Park
TV:
Comcast SportsNet
Weather: 70′s, Clear
Media: Twitter and Facebook

To tell you the truth, I’m pretty nervous about Roy Halladay’s start tonight. He’s coming off a game against the Cubs where he gave up five runs in as many innings, but it could’ve been much worse. I fear that it might be worse tonight.

Opposing him will be Jordan Zimmerman, and he’s been pretty good this year. He’s sporting a 15-8 record with a 3.33 ERA.

Lineup: Hernandez CF, Rollins SS, Utley 2B, Ruiz C, Ruf 1B, Asche 3B, Mayberry LF, Bernadina RF, Halladay P

Weather: 78, Clear

Tonight’s game in two sentences: All you have to do is look at the lineup for tonight’s game. It’s like the Iron Pigs got on a bus and all came down together.

Lineup: Hernandez 2B, Galvis SS, Frandsen 1B, Ruiz C, Ruf LF, Asche 3B, Mayberry RF, Martinez CF, Martin P

Gameday Beer: Bud Ice

If you’re going to watch that lineup, you need to find one of the most powerful aphrodesiacs available to man. That would be Bud Ice. Hell, I’m not even sure if they still make it, but if they do, go get it. It does NOT go down smooth, and does NOT taste good, but who cares. -PG

Gameday: Phillies (62-73) at Cubs (56-78)

39212-cubsPhiladelphia Phillies (62-73) at Chicago Cubs (56-78)

Cliff Lee (11-6, 3.07 ERA) vs RHP Chris Rusin (2-3, 2.64 ERA)

TIME: 4:05 ET, Wrigley Field
TV:
Comcast SportsNet, MLBN
Weather: 80, Isolated Thunderstorms
Media: Twitter and Facebook

The Phillies are back at it again today after a thrilling come-from-behind victory against the Cubs yesterday in Ryne Sandberg’s return to Wrigley. That’s the seventh win for the Phils in their last ten games. If only they had done this all season, right? Oh well. It’s still been fun to watch them since Sandberg took over the helm.

With Cliff Lee on the mound, you’ve got to like their chances of winning again today. Lee, perhaps the streakiest pitcher in Phillies history, struggled out of the gate after the All Star Break. But he’s pitched well in his last starts, allowing six earned runs over 23 innings. Lee has dominated the Cubs over his career to the tune of a 1.77 ERA. They’ve never beaten him. You’ve got to like the Phils chances against Chicago when Lee is on the mound.

Throwing a wrench in the plans for victory could be Cubs starter Chris Rusin. The rookie pitcher has been great since getting recalled to the Majors in early July. Worse, he’s never faced the Phillies. Traditionally, that has been kryptonite for the Phillies lineup. But, with a bunch of fresh faces, maybe they’ll fair a bit better today.

Lineup: Young 3B, Rollins SS, Utley 2B, Ruiz C, Ruf LF, Mayberry RF, Frandsen 1B, Bernadina CF, Lee P

Gameday Beer: Smithwicks Irish Red

Smithwicks has been around forever yet it never gets old. This red ale is one of the most common Irish brews and is perfect if you are in that Irish mood and want something lighter than a Guinness and a bit more than a Harp lager. It might not jump out at you, but you know that you are going to get a consistently solid beer, and a lot of times, that is enough.
