Top 100 Phillies of All-Time

Prior to the 2014 season, Ian Riccaboni embarked on a worthwhile project originally conceived in 2008 by site patriarch Tim Malcom: to identify the 100 greatest Phillies in the history of the franchise. Tim’s list was comprehensive, sparked much debate and included everyone from Randy Lerch to Mike Schmidt and everyone in between.  Ian’s version, compiled with help from Pat Gallen, other Phillies Nation writers and various sources, presents an updated list of the Top 100 Phillies of All Time:

Yep, if he can no longer pitch, throw, run, walk or hit…the Phillies want him and want to pay him millions of $ for being useless! That is RAJs motto…Send us your tire, poor etc…

The signings of Cliff Lee and Roy Halladay were made just to fool us. Now we know the truth about RAJ and we want him GONE!!!!!

In the “Presenting: The Phillies Nation Top 100” it said the largest jump for an active player was 28 spots. Cole Hamels was number 40 in 2008, so by that logic he couldn’t be higher than 12. Where is he?

Ryan Howard is way too low at 27. People dont give him the right respect. without his hot streaks in august and september the phillies wouldnt have made the playoffs any of those years. without himm down the stretch the last two seasons, you all saw how it went. He was MVP before too. the only current phillie that should top him is Utley and possibly hamels there for his play in the world series and NLCS in 2008. he should be on this list’s top 10

Ryan Howard: rookie of the year, MVP, most HR in one season, second all time in home runs. It’s a joke to rate him #27. A serious injury has made him a shadow of his former self, but he was the man who made the offense go in the glory years.

Pete Rose should be up there on the top 5. Except for the great pitchers at the top, Pete Rose is the best player we ever had on the team. Granny Hamner should be on that list.

Cole Hamels over Jim Bunning? Get real.

It’s close, but yes, Hamels over Bunning makes sense.

      Hamels: 1801 innings, 108-83, 3.27 ERA, 125 ERA+
      Bunning: 1521 innings, 89-73, 2.93 ERA, 122 ERA+

Their overall stats are very comparable, with Hamels’ ERA higher due to pitching in a higher-offense era, and then Hamels also has the WS ring and WS MVP.

Will Chase Utley’s number ever be retired at the ballpark.? Will he ever be in baseball’s HOF?

So tell me, how is he ahead of Whitey Ashburn then on your list?
