Like many neutral fans who commented above me, I stumbled across this link while looking at Johan Santana’s baseball-reference page. I’d just like to say that, while I have a sort of pitiful disdain for the Mets, I really don’t understand the purpose of sponsoring Johan Santana’s page and linking it to a post as inane as this. As much as I like the actual players on the Phillies, their fans need to grow up. I don’t think I need to list the many examples of Philadelphia douchbaggery (The Eagles stadium had(has?) its own jail), so I’ll just link to an article that does:

Well, as an unbiased baseball fan, I think that both the Mets fans and Phillies fans are immature, but the Phillies fans seem to go to such great lengths to put down the mets. Quite the inferiority complex if you ask me. I only found this website since I was browsing Baseball-Reference.com, and saw this link on Johan Santana’s player page. The level of immaturity on this blog really stoops to a new low level that I never thought possible. As bad as Mets fans may be, the Phillies fans are possibly worse as indicated by the small sample size on this page.

Nevertheless, the outright offensiveness by the Phillies fan that not only linked the Mets ace BR webpage to this blog, but to this horrendous post, simply befuddles me that some people really have nothing better to do with their time.

Let’s be real Philadelphia, you are the worst franchise in the history of sports, and this isn’t debatable. This is a proven fact, statistics (namely the amount of losses and lack of championships [2 in more than double the time than the Mets]) show how abysmal a franchise the Phillies truly are. Unlike your low class fans (who cause unnecessary fights and throw up on children), Mets fans don’t waste their time hating on a team that is so clearly not worth it. My feeling towards the Phillies is complete indifference, I could care less about this shit franchise and their fans who feel the need to become obnoxious because they are finally relevant for the first time in 30 years. The only reason I am on this site is because of Johan Santana’s baseball-reference profile which is sponsored by this shit show. Not only did you waste your time and money advertising your own stupidity but you brought an influx of much more intelligent fans onto this site to mock how completely delusional you are.

Is there a reason why the fans and the players of the Phillies are as obsessed as they are with the Mets? I mean, Rollins couldn’t shut his mouth during your miserable excuse for a parade, Victorino gets pictures of Reyes hung up in his locker, now some moron spends $10 to sponsor Santana’s baseballreference page? This might be the most juvenile thing that I’ve ever seen on the internet, which is really saying something. I have no interest in the matter and am, in fact, a Twins fan and was checking Johan’s stats on baseball reference from his time in twinstripes. The article is bad enough, but hijacking the baseball reference site is just in poor taste. I always gave Philadelphia fans the benefit of the doubt when people badmouthed them. I’m convinced now. This is juvenile even for this forum.

Ask yourself this: How many World Series have the Mets won? Answer: 2 How many World Series have the Phillies won? Answer: 2 The Phillies have been around for over 70 more years and have not much to show for it. The Phillies have lost more games than any other franchise (not even the Cubs ever went that low). It took the Mets only 7 years to win their first title. It took the Phillies what, like 96 years? The sad part is, the Phillies have had so many good players over the years and you would think that they would have had won more. The Mets have had no one that good when they won their World Series. Sure, now they have Utley and Howard (and now Halladay) but not much else. The same for the Mets (though slightly lesser pitching). I fail to see how the Phillies are so much better than the Mets.

Pathetic Mets team? i dont think so. Early last year, and all of 08, Mets dominated the phillies head to head, its a fact, look it up. So acting like the mets are shit, even though ur team always loses to them doesnt make sense. 07 08 and 09 were all lucky titles, win one for real, then we will talk, (and yes, when half your team is injured, it is a excuse)

Everybodies gotta relax. Baseball runs in cycles. Teams are good for awhile and then a different team is good. These last few seasons is really the only stretch when the Mets and Phillies have been competitive at the same time.

In 2006 the Mets were the best team. In 07 it was still the Mets, though the Mets choked it away. In 08 the Mets overachieved to even be up there with the Phillies, so I don’t consider that one a choke. In 09 it was Phillies, even if the Mets were healthy they were not as good.

What me and many other Met fans have trouble understanding is how much Phillies’ fans actually care about the Mets. Its almost as if it meant more to them to stick it to us, instead of enjoying a team that won a world series and got to another.

As for this year, I thought the Mets closed the gap with the addition of Bay, but now without Beltran for at least two months, (and could be more…. our doctors screw up everything), and lacking a power hitting first basemen, I think the Phillies are still the obvious favorite in the division. Other than the Phillies, the NL is really not too impressive, so I think that the Mets could still compete.

Phillies and Mets fans can both agree on one thing though…. those Santana-Halladay games are gonna be epic.
