Last year the Giants made some key additions that helped them win a pennant and a championship. I always look forward to this time of the year to study trades that have gone down and what my team (Phils) plan to do. Ruben has done some amazing things in the past and I hope he [...]

Ihope that Kyle pitches well tonight. In my bones I feel that some team in the American League is looking seriously at him. He may be involved in a trade for a right-handed bat soon. Who is this fellow Jeff, anyway? Is he a Phillies fan or a troll?

Nice to see Terry Francona doing well in Boston. He was always a quality person and a very good manager, just was not dealt a great hand in Philly. However, I want to see the Phightins kick the Red Sox’ asses today. Lester can be beaten. And Hamels is the man to do it. We [...]

Great to hear that Ruben is off his fat ass and finally trying to do something. We need him to get active.

I’m older than dirt and I love Lady GaGa. Not as much as the Phillies, but she is a great performer and really cute. Of course I am older than dirt with bad eyes. But still, I would love to go to one of her concerts. I’d be the oldest guy there and my wife [...]

I feel a huge claw coming up from my loins and stabbing my heart with its huge nails because we have such an inept offense. It just kills me, makes me miserable. It is sometimes tough to be a Phils fan when we just cannot hit. OH MY !!!!!

Bart Shart commented on the blog post PhilliesNation Interview: Marlon Anderson 2 years ago
Marlon was an interesting player. I found him to be enigmatic as he was unusual in both the field and at bat. Not a good fielder, not a great hitter. His coordination, while good enough to be a professional athlete, was most unusual. His batting stance was odd and his throwing was equally unusual. I [...]

Bart Shart commented on the blog post Vargas Outduels Hamels in Rubber Match 2 years ago
The Phillies offense beat Cole Hamels. Only three hits. Few baserunners. We were beaten by a mediocre lefthander. Cole pitched a game he should have won. THis Michael Martinez does not belong on a major league team unless he cuts down on his swing and learns to become an OUTSTANDING bunter and slap hitter. Gload [...]

Michael Martinez is a talented guy that should take a page from Matty Alou and become a pure slap hitter. The guy is only 5’7″ and weighs 150 lbs. Why is he swinging for the fences? Not smart. He is fast, a switch hitter and learns to master bunting to have a serious career in [...]

I’d love to see Cole win his 10th game of the season. I remember when everyone, including myself was on his back at the beginning of the year. I eat with both hands my humble pie. Also, I would like to see Ryan Howard go yard today. I guess we all want to see these [...]

This umpire really sucks. He has missed a number of corner calls and solid strikes. I give Oswalt credit for keeping his cool. Pineda is for real. The Phils look overmatched. We gotta get some baserunners.

Bart Shart commented on the blog post Doctor Strangeglove: On the Dangers of Expecting Victory 2 years ago
Yes, Pat, the Phils were relative dog poop for a long, long time. And, as a fan for the past 55 years I can tell you that this is the good times for Phils fans. We just don’t want it to end …..ever. Because it is sooooo much harder to be passionate about a stinker. [...]

Bart Shart commented on the blog post Phillies Start Strong, Can’t hold Lead as Cubs Rally 2 years ago
We need better hitting. Our pitching is great. I do not want to have to depend on injured old players to bounce back and start hitting. It may not happen. Our outfield just is not measuring up offensively. We need a spark and a decent right handed bat out there. It is as plain as [...]

Bart Shart commented on the blog post The Winning Side of Low-Scoring Games 2 years ago
I read recently that Ruben Jr. said that he will not make any major moves this year. Frankly, this really concerns me (pisses me off, too) that a GM would make such an comment to an offense-eager fan base like ours. Doesn’t he smell the roses? He must know that come playoff time, we will [...]

An optimistic and effective article by Don M. However, this offense worries the dickens out of me. I know in my heart of hearts that we need a reliable right-handed bat. Today I think of Josh Willingham of the A’s. What would it take to land this respectable right-handed bat?. How about the big Italian [...]

Let’s not kid ourselves, both players will test the market and we will pay dearly for the Cliff Lee signing in that the Yankees want both Madson and Hamels. Ruben better be ready, willing and able in these upcoming negotiations.

Bart Shart commented on the blog post Gameday: Dodgers (28-33) vs. Phillies (36-24) 2 years ago
Today …. I would trade Ryan Howard for Shawn Kemp — even up. I’d move Utley to first base and Polanco to second base. Then I would hunt for a third baseman — possibly Wilson Betemit. In the offseason, I would strive to sign Prince Fielder. And, that is exactly why I am not a [...]

Utley looks poor. I hope he isn’t fried. The bats are not consistent or clutch. This is a boring team right now. We need to do better. Howard is in a lull and leaving too many men on base despite his inflated RBI numbers. I hate to say it, but Jeff may be right on [...]

Bart Shart commented on the blog post Phillies Starting Eight is Back 2 years ago
I agree with the article. Charlie Manuel is stuck in the 1980′s, and we have little concept of “pulling out all the stops” offensively to win games. We are like an old Cadillac, expensive and we just keep rolling along. Eventually we will be passed on that road to success. It’s unfortunate, but true. Very [...]
