Dropped Strike Three commented on the blog post Keeping Sandberg a Must for Phillies Organization 1 year, 7 months ago
I’m a Sandberg supporter and with all the potential “losses” this organization could have in the near future if they don’t get a few deals done, I’d rank Sandberg somewhere not far behind Cole Hamels. I’d say quality managers grow on fewer trees than right handed relievers (Madson), or aging shortstops (Rollins).

Throwing a game isn’t all that easy… Just ask Shoeless Joe Jackson and his .375 BA in the 1919 World Series!

Woah… you guys went from polo’s to shirt & tie, and now Corey breaks out the glasses? I’m expecting nothing less than sport coats for episode 4! Double breasted tuxedos and top hats by episode 10!

Dropped Strike Three commented on the blog post Phillies Nation TV – Episode 1 1 year, 8 months ago
Excellent work. Started off a bit choppy, but I think Corey got a little more used to the camera and the pace of TV work by the 2nd-3rd minute. For a first Episode, I’m very impressed!

Dropped Strike Three commented on the blog post David Mayhew and Jesus Christ on Ruben Amaro 1 year, 9 months ago
Certainly interesting to read the counter opinion… I think the issue with Singleton is that Amaro was negotiating from a point of weakness no matter who the trade partner would have been. With Howard blocking him and his outfield attempts seeming to yield disappointing results, Singleton had no value with the Phillies and every other [...]

Perez seems eerily similar to JC Romero of 2007. Couldn’t hang on with another team, comes over and fireballs his way into our hearts as a loogy. I’ll take it.

My fondest All Star moment was in 1996 when my uncle got belligerently drunk at the game and we left him there. My dad was pissed, but I found it hilarious at the time. I still bring it up at family BBQs.

Does Spilborghs really require a top prospect in return? If so, I’m out, but he’s on the top of my short list right now.

If nothing else, I think it’s completely clear that there was/is no plan for how Singleton, Greene, and Howard are going to co-exist in Philadelphia.

Dropped Strike Three commented on the blog post POLL: Your Favorite Phillies Reliever 1 year, 11 months ago
Whoever votes for Lidge is being nostalgic, whoever votes for Stutes is being trendy, and whoever votes for Kendrick/Baez/Romero/Herndon is really just looking to get a rise out of people. There’s really only one legit answer here: Wilson Valdez.

“Video” Dan and the production crew were really scraping the bottom of the barrel to rally the crowd in those later innings. The Robot Cam & Bongo Cam. Clips from War Games, Hoosiers, Animal House, Rocky, and Happy Gillmore. About 7 clips from Ce-Lo’s Forget You, The Friends theme song, and Pink at 1AM. And [...]

When you learn to swim, you don’t just jump right into the deep end. Sabremetrics have to be eased into. Doggie paddle around in the shallow pool with VORP and WAR for a while. Those two stats alone give you mountains of insight to a player’s true value, but they don’t bog you down with [...]

Dropped Strike Three commented on the blog post Examining the Roster, Part 2 2 years ago
“If I have hit into 4 double plays today it means i am no more or less likely to hit into another one. ” Well that’s just flat out wrong. If Valdez had a full season’s worth of ABs last season, his numbers projected for about 34 double plays. That would put him #3 on [...]

Dropped Strike Three commented on the blog post Examining the Roster, Part 2 2 years ago
Sadly, Wilson Valdez may have just earned himself a stay of execution with his performance last night. I like all of the moves listed, but I think the best you can hope for is 2 of the 5 happening within the next month. I suspect that the leash with some of these guys is longer [...]

Dropped Strike Three commented on the blog post Phillies Put Pictures on Milk Cartons to Find Offense 2 years ago
Agreed, Valdez has to go. A solid infield glove is nice to have, but to keep a job in this league, you have to balance that skill with some speed, or leadership, or clutch hitting or something… Valdez does nothing else of note. He’s a less reliable Pedro Feliz.

Dropped Strike Three commented on the blog post Top 20 Pitchers in the Major Leagues 2 years ago
I would say you’re absolutely right… not because he’s not good enough, but because he’s the 4th fiddle and to put a #4 pitcher at #8 overall is just too scary for any other team to comprehend!

Dropped Strike Three commented on the blog post Top 20 Pitchers in the Major Leagues 2 years ago
He hasn’t played in a year, but if you’re including Adam Wainwright as #6, it’s tough not to at least put Johan Santana on the “fringe” list. My only other argument would be to bump Dan Haren back up the list a bit.
