No screaming kids on the mobile version. The only screaming kids here are the live ones in the same room.

Good pitching prospects = more $ available to spend on acquiring good hitting. If just one pans out in 2013 to take Blanton’s spot at the minimum salary, that frees up $8 mil for Shane/Pence or a FA.

Now that Madson’s out for the year for TJ, due to elbow problems the Phillies may have already known about, will not signing him long term go onto the “good” side of RAJ’s ledger?

I’m also looking forward to Mayberry mashing in a few late inning ABs against lefties because Big Jim is waiting on the bench if the opposing manager brings in a righty. That’s why (in some games) I’d like to see him hit behind Chase and Ryan. He’ll either get to see the LOOGY, or Big [...]

So, if Blanton is healthy and can be moved, does Oswalt do a 2009 Pedro, and come back to Philly?

Eric, They’re getting close to a limit, lux.tax not withstanding. After several years of strong revenue growth, it only went up $6 mil from 2010 to 2011. They’re probably close to maxed out in terms of money on hand unless and until there’s a new TV deal. They’re also near the bottom (24th) in terms [...]

Two disparate comments to follow… 1. If the goal is to get rid of Blanton, would it be better to package him with one of the ‘Pig Pen arms now and get someone to eat most of his salary in return, or wait and see if he gets off to a good start, trade him [...]

I’m not sure I believe this, but, building on the 80/20 vs. 50/50 mental line of reasoning, would the opposing defense “try harder”? If a player in the OF knows that their team is unlikely to score many runs against one of the aces, does he go a little harder for that diving catch? If [...]

The Phils couldn’t possibly trade a left-handed, slugging, past his prime, slow 1st baseman, coming off a down year and significant injury. It’s not like they could just call up the White Sox, dump a guy they think is washed up on them. They might have to eat part of his salary. And the Sox [...]

Michael Taylor, Greg Golson, Mike Costanza, Jason Brannan…. I think these were some of the top prospects who were supposed to be with the Phillies by now. (also Bourn, Floyd, Marson, Hamels, Carrasco)
I’ve probably messed up a few spellings, but we’re several years away from knowing what Singleton or Cosart will be.
