So you might be asking what do Phillies bloggers do now that the season is over? Well of course here at Phillies Nation we’ll spend the next month or so lamenting over the season that was 2005. But as a whole the Phillies bloggers got together through the power of email to bring to you some awards for the 2005 season. In reflecting on the year, many of the categories had obvious answers which may not make this list all that interesting. Nonethless, it must be done, people must be congratulated and criticized collectively by those that do it best (or at least most often). Thanks to Tom, over at Balls Sticks and Stuff for organizing and you can check out his article here. So without further adieu, I present to you the 2005 Phlog Writers Awards.
Phillies Rookie of the Year
Ryan Howard in a unanimous vote.
Best Offensive Phillie
Pat Burrell and Chase Utley tied
Best Defensive Phillie
Jimmy Rollins
Best Phillie Starting Pitcher
Jon Lieber. I voted for Brett Myers, but in reality it’s like voting for your favorite Dixie Chick – they all suck.
Best Game of the Phillies 2005 Season
The game of September 23rd, when the team came back in the ninth inning in Cincinnati to win 11-10. This was a close category however, with several other games receiving votes: May 7th, June 1st, July 22nd, and September 17th.
Worst Game of the Phillies 2005 Season
September 7th won easily. Billy and Belly blew the game and the season.
Biggest Drag on the Phillies in 2005
This was a tie between the inconsistency of the starting rotation and the infamous lineup Black Hole of David Bell and Mike Lieberthal.
Best Citizens Bank Park Concession
The Schmitter (although I tend to prefer a postgame g&t with Larry Anderson at McFadden’s, even though I hate gin)
If you got beef with any of the winners or losers or think there should be more categories, hollaback.
