The Phillies’ magic number is 2 going into the final day of the season; the Astros’ is 1. Both teams won last night, thanks to jems tossed by Brett Myers and Roger Clemens. Myers set a new career record with 12 strikeouts in 7 innings pitched. And they Phils usually win when Ryan Howard hits a home run, which he did lat night and Jimmy Rollins extended his hitting streak. So, it all comes down to Sunday. The Phils have been in the hunt all season, so what more can you ask for? Well, the playoffs of course.
Tomorrow, the Astros have to lose. They have Row Oswalt gunning for his 20th win but face Greg Maddux who is looking for his 14th win to break even on the season. In DC, Jon Leiber will square off against Hector Carrasco. A must win by all definitions for the Phillies. This, plus an Astros loss would set the stage for a one game playoff for the wild card title at Citizen’s Bank Ballpark on Monday. Go Phils!
