Roberson Shipped To Baltimore

We interrupt this lull in Phillies-land for this breaking news bulletin:

Chris Roberson is outta here.

The fleet-footed outfielder was traded to the Baltimore Orioles for cash. Roberson, 28, hit .266 for AAA Ottawa last season, and in his stint with the Phillies, pinch ran and made a bonehead play against the Braves in September, probably ending his chances at a regular shot with the big club. There was no reason to think Roberson would elevate his game to anything more than an AAA-level outfielder. He has some worth to Baltimore as a possible fifth outfielder, but on a contending team with an outfield collection of Burrell/Victorino/Jenkins/Werth/Taguchi/Snelling, Roberson was clearly the odd man out.

Now, back to regularly sheculed programming, which includes part three of my list of the 2007 top-20 moments in Phillies Phandom, coming later tonight.

Tim Malcolm

Tim first found the Phillies as a little infant at Veteran’s Stadium, cheering on a Juan Samuel game-winning home run in his very first game. With the pinstripes in his blood, he witnessed Terry Mulholland’s 1990 no-hitter, “Steve Carlton Night” at the Vet, game three of the 1993 World Series, countless games during the charmed 2008 championship season and various road excursions. Since November 2007 Tim’s been writing about them daily at Phillies Nation, becoming one of the world’s most popular Phillies scribes. You can catch him on Twitter and Facebook, as well. When he’s not talking about the Phils he’s relaxing with a St. Bernardus ABT 12 or one of his many favored brews.
