Mets Lose Alou 4-6 Weeks To Hernia Surgery

Mets left fielder Moises Alou will miss four-to-six weeks as he undergoes surgery on his right hernia. He left Port St. Lucie Wednesday because of a strain, and flew back to New York for an MRI. He will have surgery Thursday.

“I myself have never seen so many injuries at one time,” said Mets Manager Willie Randolph.

David Wright, however, didn’t call them injuries.

“There’s a difference between being banged-up and injured. We’re not injured, we’re banged-up.”

Whatever they are, they’re not at full strength, not by any means. We all knew Alou would get injured at some point this season — that’s his nature. But this early in the Spring? It could be a long and painful season for the Mets. Already they’re searching for a contingency plan for first baseman Carlos Delgado and a platoon partner for right fielder Ryan Church. Now they’ll need to add another outfield spot to that help-wanted list.

Tim first found the Phillies as a little infant at Veteran’s Stadium, cheering on a Juan Samuel game-winning home run in his very first game. With the pinstripes in his blood, he witnessed Terry Mulholland’s 1990 no-hitter, “Steve Carlton Night” at the Vet, game three of the 1993 World Series, countless games during the charmed 2008 championship season and various road excursions. Since November 2007 Tim’s been writing about them daily at Phillies Nation, becoming one of the world’s most popular Phillies scribes. You can catch him on Twitter and Facebook, as well. When he’s not talking about the Phils he’s relaxing with a St. Bernardus ABT 12 or one of his many favored brews.
