Moyer Good, Offense Bad In Loss

Jamie Moyer pitched fine, but the offense made no progress in a 3-1 loss to Tampa yesterday.

Old Man Moyer went six innings, giving up three runs (one earned) in the final frame. JC Romero and Travis Blackley cleaned up with scoreless innings to finish the all-lefty game.

Moyer’s spring ERA is at 3.29, and it seems he’s ready to go for the season. Romero, too. Blackley is now two steps ahead of Vic Darensbourg, his challenger for the lefty bullpen spot. Darensbourg will likely pitch Friday.

Chris Snelling, Carlos Ruiz and Geoff Jenkins got hits for the Phils — Jenkins a double and Ruiz an RBI single. It’s good to see the former coming up big, while Ruiz continues to have an impressive spring.

What we got out of this game:

  1. Jamie Moyer is ready to go.
  2. Travis Blackley looks like a LOOGY.
  3. Carlos Ruiz is having a very good spring.

Today the Phils get the Pirates at 1:05 p.m. Adam Eaton will pitch. Tom Gordon and JD Durbin will also go — I believe this is Durbin’s last gasp. One bad outing and it’s outta here for “The Real Deal.” Kyle Kendrick will go in a Minor League game (I’d rather see him face Big League pitching).

Looks like I’ll get to see Cole Hamels Saturday or Sunday when I’m in Clearwater. By the way, I’ll be there all weekend checking out the team and giving you the inside scoop.
