Phils Drop Sixth Straight; Game Update

Under the lights in Sarasota, the Phillies dropped yet another game, losing 6-1 to the Reds. It seems as if each game has the same story: Pitching falters across the board, offense can’t get going.

Though it’s only March, this trend gets really nerve-wracking.

Ryan Madson, getting the start just to face better competition, did pretty well, giving up just one run (a home run) in his three innings of work. Fabio Castro, however, struggled, giving up five hits and two runs in two innings. Travis Blackley let four baserunners on in his three innings, but struck out five. He gave up two runs. Clay Condrey finished the game, giving up a run in his inning.

Nothing offensively. Greg Dobbs had two hits and an RBI.

What we got out of this game:

  1. Fabio Castro isn’t quite on the 25-man roster yet.
  2. Travis Blackley, by the hair of his chin, is still alive.
  3. A pick-me-up is necessary for this offense.

Jamie Moyer, your new No. 3 starter, gets the start against the Reds at 7:05 p.m. Tom Gordon will also pitch. Live box score link to come.

Game update: Jamie Moyer had his first bad start of the spring, giving up four runs so far through four; however, the Phillies offense has picked it up. And thanks to a guy who probably won’t make the 25-man roster: Casey Smith. He hit a three-run home run. Carlos Ruiz has an RBI double and, yes, Greg Golson is 2-2 with a double. Get this man a roster spot! Phils lead 7-4. Box score.
