Update: Rollins Says ‘Ankle Is Fine’

UPDATE (6:59 p.m.): Todd Zolecki has this from Rollins:

The ankle is fine. I’m able to walk pretty much without a limp. It’s just when I did it I heard a nice little pop and it felt like somebody dropped a weight on my foot. I probably could have gone out there (to play shortstop in the eighth inning), but me at 50 percent and (Eric) Bruntlett at 100 percent, I’d rather have him out there.”

So Jimmy doesn’t know if he can play tomorrow; they’ll need to take a look at the ankle, obviously, so we’ll see tomorrow. In other news, 2 Bruntletts > 1 Rollins. I’m not sure about that.

UPDATE (5:44 p.m.): Rollins says the injury isn’t serious, and according to the Daily News, he hopes to play tomorrow:

“I could have stayed in the game, but that would not have made sense. It wouldn’t have been the right thing to do to help our team win.”

The Daily News staff report said Rollins wasn’t limping badly in the clubhouse after leaving the game. Sounds like good news; we’ll know plenty more soon.

The Phillies defeated the Mets today, 5-2, but suffered a tough blow as Jimmy Rollins left the game in the seventh inning after making an awkward turn to second base.

Preliminary reports call for a left ankle sprain. We’ll have more as it comes, along with a full recap of the game.
