The Phillies must’ve been wearing their black uniforms Saturday, because after a night when they put up 21 hits, they come back the next day and put up four. And two were from the pitcher. The Phils fell short, 3-2, miffed by former colleague Kyle Lohse.
Lohse went eight innings and struck out three against his former team, while who else but Ryan Franklin cleaned up the game for his ninth save of the year. Much like Rod Barajas and Wes Helms earlier this season, former Phillies find a way to get under the skin of this current brand.
The offense was stale. Jimmy Rollins couldn’t get it going again and went 0-for-4. His slump is starting to stick out like a sore thumb. Shane Victorino, Chase Utley, Geoff Jenkins, Pedro Feliz and Carlos Ruiz all had 0-fer games. Pat Burrell homered to get the Phils two runs, but that was it.
The loss went to Adam Eaton, who gave up three runs but, as usual, kept the Phils in the game. He went 6.2 innings, scattering nine hits while walking one. His ERA is now a respectable 4.57. JC Romero pitched a scoreless remainder.

Tim MalcolmTim first found the Phillies as a little infant at Veteran’s Stadium, cheering on a Juan Samuel game-winning home run in his very first game. With the pinstripes in his blood, he witnessed Terry Mulholland’s 1990 no-hitter, “Steve Carlton Night” at the Vet, game three of the 1993 World Series, countless games during the charmed 2008 championship season and various road excursions. Since November 2007 Tim’s been writing about them daily at Phillies Nation, becoming one of the world’s most popular Phillies scribes. You can catch him on Twitter and Facebook, as well. When he’s not talking about the Phils he’s relaxing with a St. Bernardus ABT 12 or one of his many favored brews.
