Gameday: Phillies (41-28) At Cardinals (40-29)

Kyle, meet the 2008 Phillies. Phillies, meet Kyle.

Kyle Lohse will take the mound against his former team for the first time, with the Phils coming off a 20-run explosion against the Cardinals Friday night. With the Phils Lohse was 3-0 with a 4.72 ERA, providing the Phils with a bunch of six-inning, three-run starts — you know, Kendrickian starts. This season, however, he’s baffling teams with six-inning, one- and two-run starts. He has won his last four starts (23 IP, 5 ER).

The Phils, meanwhile, have Adam Eaton on the hill. Eaton has been quite consistent with a string of Kendrickian starts, including his last, a six-inning, three-run effort against the Braves that the Phils later won. Against the Cardinals (seven starts) he has a 6.82 ERA.

Carlos Ruiz had a career game yesterday (4-for-6, 4 RBI) and is in the starting lineup again.

Phillies: Adam Eaton (2-3) 4.62 ERA
Cardinals: Kyle Lohse (7-2) 3.92 ERA

Gametime: 3:55 p.m. EST
Weather: 83, sunny
Television: FOX
Lineup: Rollins, Victorino, Utley, Howard, Burrell, Jenkins, Feliz, Ruiz, Eaton

Your gameday beer: A recommendation by Phil, it’s Leinenkugel’s Summer Shandy. I’ve heard varying opinions about this one, but a truth remains: It’s the right beer for a hot day in the Midwest summer sun. Well, it’s a hot day in Saint Louis, so crack one of these open. It’s very lemony (too lemony?), so it screams of dog day beer. Have some barbecue or jerk chicken with this.

Go Phillies!

Tim first found the Phillies as a little infant at Veteran’s Stadium, cheering on a Juan Samuel game-winning home run in his very first game. With the pinstripes in his blood, he witnessed Terry Mulholland’s 1990 no-hitter, “Steve Carlton Night” at the Vet, game three of the 1993 World Series, countless games during the charmed 2008 championship season and various road excursions. Since November 2007 Tim’s been writing about them daily at Phillies Nation, becoming one of the world’s most popular Phillies scribes. You can catch him on Twitter and Facebook, as well. When he’s not talking about the Phils he’s relaxing with a St. Bernardus ABT 12 or one of his many favored brews.
