Gameday: Phillies (41-29) At Cardinals (41-29)

Happy Father’s Day, dads.

Today marks the final game of a nine-game road swing for the Phils. Currently they stand at 5-3 on the trip after a 3-2 loss to Kyle Lohse and the Cardinals yesterday. Today Brett Myers will try to take the series, and he’ll have to pitch better than his last start, a five-run performance against the Marlins Tuesday. He surrendered three homers in that game, adding to his league-leading total of 18 given up. He has given up four or more runs in half (7/14) of his starts.

Myers and Co. will face Cardinals rookie Mitchell Boggs. Besides having a weird hybrid name, Boggs is a 24-year-old right-hander from Georgia. In his first start he went five innings, giving up two runs on four hits against the Reds in Cincinnati. According to scouting reports, Boggs will work his fastball to set up an effective slider, making him more of a late-inning bullpen type of pitcher. The Phils will need to be patient with Boggs and make him miss with the fastball.

Both Shane Victorino and Pedro Feliz are getting the day off â€” Jayson Werth and Greg Dobbs are in the lineup. Chris Coste, a father for the second time now, is back and in the lineup, as well.
