Odds And Ends: Werth Prank, Kline, Isringhausen

A few notes before the Phillies head into Saint Louis:

  • Jayson Werth was pranked last night before the final game of the Marlins series.

The first lineup card slotted him at catcher. Because Chris Coste and his wife had their second child, Coste wasn’t in Miami, so Werth became the de-facto backup (he had caught a bunch of games in the Minors). It was merely a prank. Werth:

“I thought it was a big joke initially, but then nobody was laughing but me. So I’m like, ‘OK, maybe this really is going to happen.’ I was looking at video of the last time Jamie threw against the Marlins.”

After two bad losses to the Fish, there’s nothing like a prank to ease the tension.

  • A few days old, but the Phillies released Steve Kline.

The left-hander wasn’t working out in AAA Lehigh Valley. He was carrying a 5.16 ERA in 22.2 innings for the IronPigs.

  • David Murphy reports Cardinals closer Jason Isringhausen might be activated for the weekend series.

But supposedly he’s revealing a flaw in his curveball. OK, boys, let’s get down by two, then hit Izzy in the ninth! We have the secret potion!
