MLBTradeRumors has a post with a bunch of Bedard-Phillies links.
Divulge here. Of those links, there’s a piece about how Bedard was on 950 AM in Philly (which seems weird), and Will Carroll of Baseball Prospectus has this:
“Sources say that Pat Gillick’s comfort level with both Lee Pelekoudas and the medical staff he knows from his days in Seattle is making this deal possible, though Gillick seems to want Bedard at a significant discount to what the Mariners paid in the off-season.”
Makes sense. Bedard is getting $7M this season through arbitration with the Mariners. He’ll be worth even more after 2008 and is good through 2010. So what does significant discount mean? I’d say a Carlos Carrasco/Greg Golson/Travis d’Arnaud deal, or something to that extent, would be significant.
