Commentary: Vote For Burrell

How a guy like this is excluded from the All-Star game is beyond me:

284 AB, .278 AVG, .411 OBP, .585 SLG, 21 HR, 53 RBI, 47 R

Pat Burrell deserves to be in the All-Star Game. There’s no reason whatsoever why he shouldn’t playing. Phuture Phillies has devoted a whole post to the Burrell-for-All-Star campaign. Check it out.

This isn’t just about Burrell this year. It’s about a guy who has hit 239 career home runs in nine seasons. It’s about a guy who has been one of the great Phillies of all time. It’s about a guy who has become a fan favorite in Philly after years of torture. Burrell has never played in the All-Star game, yet here are some guys who have:

  • Shea Hillenbrand
  • Cesar Izturis
  • Felipe Lopez
  • Morgan Ensberg

And I just looked at the 2005 rosters. Seriously, let’s get Burrell in the game. Vote now.

Tim first found the Phillies as a little infant at Veteran’s Stadium, cheering on a Juan Samuel game-winning home run in his very first game. With the pinstripes in his blood, he witnessed Terry Mulholland’s 1990 no-hitter, “Steve Carlton Night” at the Vet, game three of the 1993 World Series, countless games during the charmed 2008 championship season and various road excursions. Since November 2007 Tim’s been writing about them daily at Phillies Nation, becoming one of the world’s most popular Phillies scribes. You can catch him on Twitter and Facebook, as well. When he’s not talking about the Phils he’s relaxing with a St. Bernardus ABT 12 or one of his many favored brews.
