Gamenight: Phillies (53-46) At Mets (53-46)

The Phillies open a huge three-game series in Queens tonight against the Mets.

Blanton Debut: Tonight is the debut of Phillies pitcher Joe Blanton, who went 5-12 for the Athletics this season. He was acquired in a trade for Adrian Cardenas, Josh Outman and Matt Spencer.

Johan: Mets ace Johan Santana makes his third start against the Phils this season. Against them he is 1-0 and has pitched strongly both times. Last time out he was pulled after seven innings, and the Mets promptly lost the game.

O Bother: Sunday the Phillies were shut down by Marlins pitching after the opening innings. They lost 3-2.

MLB Gameday

Your gameday beer: In honor of Blanton’s debut, I’m going with something heavy. A stout. The old traditional Irish dry stout, Guinness. Good with hearty meals such as beef stew, it’s a slow drinker that adds a couple pounds to you when finished. You feel very Blantonesque when you’re done. Go get ’em, Joe.

Tim first found the Phillies as a little infant at Veteran’s Stadium, cheering on a Juan Samuel game-winning home run in his very first game. With the pinstripes in his blood, he witnessed Terry Mulholland’s 1990 no-hitter, “Steve Carlton Night” at the Vet, game three of the 1993 World Series, countless games during the charmed 2008 championship season and various road excursions. Since November 2007 Tim’s been writing about them daily at Phillies Nation, becoming one of the world’s most popular Phillies scribes. You can catch him on Twitter and Facebook, as well. When he’s not talking about the Phils he’s relaxing with a St. Bernardus ABT 12 or one of his many favored brews.
