Moyer was awesome, striking out five and loweing his ERA to 3.78. Honestly, Moyer has to be one of the huge surprises so far; we thought he’d toil around the 4.80 area. Nope. Not now at least. His durable and sometimes dominant starts have made him a huge lifesaver in the rotation.
The unflappable Chad Durbin and JC Romero combined for the hold, setting it up for Brad Lidge, who looked stunning once again for his 21st save of the season.
Ryan Howard got the Phils on the board early with his 29th home run of the season, the league best. Pat Burrell (double) and Geoff Jenkins (single) combined for the second run. Jenkins also homered. It’s good to see him contributing to the cause. Jimmy Rollins and Chase Utley also tag teamed for a run.
This was a solid win, up and down. Good offense early, great pitching throughout and shutdown relief work at the end. A good way to begin the second half and a good result: taking back the lead.
