Brett Myers returned to the Phillies rotation and looked shaky. He walked five and gave up three runs in five innings as the Phils lost 6-3.
Myers “held” the Mets through five, but really, the Mets had plenty of chances to blow the game open off Myers. When in trouble, he relied on his curveball to get him out. But the fastball had no control whatsoever, mainly going high, a sign of overthrowing, maybe tension, maybe nervousness.
All in all, not at all a confident start by Myers. The plague remains.
The Phils were faceless this time against the Mets pitching. Shane Victorino and Geoff Jenkins had back-to-back homers in the second, and Jimmy Rollins added an RBI double. But ask Jenkins to get a single. Ask Rollins to get one in crunch time. Ask Chase Utley, who looks lost at the plate. Maine was getting out of every inning with relative ease, whether it was his doing or not. And against the better part of the Mets bullpen (Scott Schoenweis, Joe Smith, Billy Wagner), the Phils had no answer. Pedro Feliz? Please.
Just as they reeled us back in with a stunning ninth inning, they came back Wednesday with the same old problems. Will the real Phillies please stand up? Please?!
On a good note, Phillies Nation’s “Boo? F*ck you!” shirt made national TV!
Kudos to the fan who was seen on ESPN wearing our newest attire. Nice work!
