has been reported numerous times that the Phillies have scouted CC Sabathia and Erik Bedard. Of course they have — they’re looking at them both. Nothing new on Carlos Carrasco, though one thinks if he’s injured for a long period of time it wouldn’t bode well for trading prospects.
And speaking of those …
Jayson Stark has the dirt on two Phillies that probably won’t be going anywhere soon. He writes:
“Despite persistent rumors that the Phillies would trade Shane Victorino for a starting pitcher, an official of one club says: ‘I don’t know where that’s coming from.’ He said the Phillies have ‘never given the indication they’re actively looking to do something with him.’
“Incidentally, other clubs are reporting the Phillies also won’t talk about their Double-A catcher, Lou Marson (currently hitting .322, with a .444 on-base percentage that ranks second in the Eastern League). They’re now projecting Marson as their starting catcher in the very near future.”
Good and good. Losing Victorino is not recommended. He provides a balance this team needs with its propensity for hitting the long ball and clogging bases. And it’s great to see Marson is projected as the catcher of the future. He sure as heck is, and could be such next season.
