Carlos Carrasco pitched 6.2 innings, giving up two runs (none earned) on six hits in his first AAA start with the Lehigh Valley IronPigs.
The No. 1 prospect threw 102 pitches, 67 for strikes. According to Joseph Santoliquito of the Inquirer, he had “great command of his fastball, changeup and curveball.” He was throwing in the mid-90s with a changeup in the mid-80s.
Asst. GM Ruben Amaro agreed that he looked good:
“He threw strikes, was very aggressive, going after hitters, and looked very poised and under control to me. But whether or not we’ll call him up is something we can’t discuss publicly. We would need a reason to bring him … But there is no question he has major league stuff.”
Whether it bodes well for his Major League prospects or not, it’s a promising start for Carrasco against close to MLB-quality talent. They should take it one start at a time with him.
