Dodgers Sweep Lifeless Phillies Out Of First

The Phillies were swept out of Dodger Stadium, clean and without much of a fight, in a 3-1 loss to Los Angeles Thursday night.

Hiroki Kuroda made it look easy against the Phillies lineup, but then again, who hasn’t? He went seven innings, giving up just one run on two hits. The Phillies never walked. The run was from a sac fly by Ryan Howard (congratulations on forgetful RBI 103, Ryan), not from a hit by anyone.

The actual hits came from Jayson Werth (who scored the run) and Chase Utley. Both hits were doubles, keeping the Phillies 40+ game extra-base hit streak intact.

Really, is there any more pointless, sad statistic than that?

The inept offense gave an unfortunate loss to Brett Myers, who mostly held the Dodger offense in check. He did surrender three runs, but threw pretty well in his seven frames. He struck out eight, mixing everything from his repertoire into his outing.

I won’t mercilessly kill the already dead horse, so I’ll just say the problem here and now: Offense. They should know why it’s a problem.

Oh, and the Phils are no longer a first place team. The Mets took care of the Nationals with — ahem — offense, and are now a game ahead. Good job, “good guys.”
