Gamenight: Phillies (59-50) At Cardinals (62-50)

After a bad game and loss to the Cardinals, the Phillies will turn to Joe Blanton to right the ship against Saint Louis.

OK, Joe: Sunday, Joe Blanton went just two innings and gave up two runs to the Braves. A rain delay after the second inning stopped him, and he didn’t return.

Hung For A Loop: Braden Looper last faced the Phillies July 10, and lost, 4-1. He gave up four runs in six innings in that game.

We Want A Pitcher And Hitter: Looper is hitting .293 this season.

Lining Up: Despite facing a righty, Jayson Werth is starting tonight in right field. Greg Dobbs is in the lineup tonight, playing third base.

Phillies: Joe Blanton (5-12) 5.13 ERA
Cardinals: Braden Looper (10-8) 4.38 ERA

Gametime: 7:15 p.m. EST
Weather: 86, sunny
Lineup: Rollins/Victorino/Utley/Howard/Burrell/Werth/Dobbs/Coste/Blanton

MLB Gameday

Your gamenight beer: A creamy, dense beer, Herold Bohemian Black Lager is what it says — a black lager. It’s not heavy, however; black lagers run the gamut, and usually are light. This one is perfect with dessert, such as a chocolate truffle. Tonight, we go bohemian.

Tim first found the Phillies as a little infant at Veteran’s Stadium, cheering on a Juan Samuel game-winning home run in his very first game. With the pinstripes in his blood, he witnessed Terry Mulholland’s 1990 no-hitter, “Steve Carlton Night” at the Vet, game three of the 1993 World Series, countless games during the charmed 2008 championship season and various road excursions. Since November 2007 Tim’s been writing about them daily at Phillies Nation, becoming one of the world’s most popular Phillies scribes. You can catch him on Twitter and Facebook, as well. When he’s not talking about the Phils he’s relaxing with a St. Bernardus ABT 12 or one of his many favored brews.
