Brett Myers gets his real test of his second time around in the rotation as he faces the Cardinals tonight on the worldwide stage (be prepared to see that overused Albert Pujols-stretching-from-wide-angle-lens shot a couple times tonight).
Being Brett: Against the Mets Myers went five innings and gave up three runs while walking five. Against the Nationals he went seven innings and gave up no (earned) runs while walking one. The Cardinals are a pretty good offense, right with the Mets. Myers needs to pitch better than that Met start to show he belongs in the rotation.
Speaking Of Offenses: The Phillies have scored 551 runs, good for second in the National League. They’re slugging .444, best in the league. They’ve hit 155 home runs, best in baseball. But they’re hitting a mere .257, eighth-best in the NL. Talk about homer-happy.
100 Club: With four more RBI, Ryan Howard will earn his third-straight 100-RBI season. He’s projected to have 141.
MVP: Chad “Dim the Lights” Durbin has had an ERA over 2.00 for just 11 days this season. His ERA has never climbed above 2.70.
Here’s The Pitch: The Phillies’ pitching staff saw its ERA dip to 3.99 after Saturday night’s one-run performance.
The Todd: Last time the Phils faced Todd Wellemeyer they blitzed him for eight runs in under four innings â the infamous 20-run massacre at Busch.
Phillies: Brett Myers (4-9) 5.46 ERA
Cardinals: Todd Wellemeyer (8-4) 4.13 ERA
Gametime: 8:05 p.m. EST
Weather: 86, mostly sunny

Your gamenight beer: Is there any better American brewery, pound for pound, than the Sierra Nevada company? I can be partial to Sam Adams (being a Boston collegiate), but Sierra Nevada is never wrong. From the India Pale to the Stout to the Celebration Ale (I need to have this) to their Harvest ales, they’re champions of the craft. Here is the Brown Ale, another victory from the California company. Tonight is the perfect night for a Sunday night barbecue. Stoke the coals, turn on that radio (sadly, no Harry) and break open some Brown Ales with those glazed ribs, those burgers.
Go Phillies!
