Finally grabbing a win, the Phillies will look to tee off against Chad Reineke, who makes his Major League debut tonight for San Diego. Last night the Phils beat a guy pretty far from his debut, one Greg Maddux. The Phils won 1-0 against the Hall of Famer, with their starter making a small push for the Hall himself — Jamie Moyer.
Kwality Kyle: Phillies starters have thrown 14 quality starters in their last 20 games. The Phils are third in the National League in said category. Kyle Kendrick likes the QS: His 6 IP, 3 ER novelties (Kendrickian starts) are exactly what a QS is. He has 13 of them this season — his last start, however, wasn’t (3.1 IP, 7 ER).
Padre Past: Only two Padre hitters (Adrian Gonzalez, Kevin Kouzmanoff) have history against Kendrick. They’re a combined 1-for-5 against him.
Pat Pushing It: With two more homers, Pat Burrell would join Ryan Howard and Chase Utley in the Phillie 30-homer club. It would be the third time the Phils would have three sluggers reach that number in one season (they did it last year [Howard, Burrell, Jimmy Rollins]).
Hobbled Hobbs: Greg Dobbs had left quad injury. He said he’s ready to go, however, and was brought in to pinch hit Friday night before being pulled with a lefty coming in to pitch.
Phillies: Kyle Kendrick (10-6) 4.74 ERA
Padres: Chad Reineke (0-0) 0.00 ERA [Debut]
