The Phillies sought the services of catcher David Ross, but the Red Sox seem primed to grab him from free agency, according to Todd Zolecki.

Ross, hitting .231 with 3 HR and 13 RBI for the Reds this season, cleared waivers and was contacted by the Phils. No deal was made, however. Currently the Phils have Carlos Ruiz, Chris Coste, Jason Jaramillo and Lou Marson in the immediate catcher depth chart.
