Phils Pound, Then Contain Dodgers For Game 2 Win
The Brett Myers Show continued into the National League Championship Series. Myers went five innings and surrendered five runs, but made his biggest contributions at the plate. His three hits and three RBI fueled the Phillies to an 8-5 win over the Dodgers, putting them up 2-0 in the best-of-seven NLCS.
Myers contributed to two big innings — a four-run second and a four-run third. In the second, it all came with two outs. Greg Dobbs singled. Carlos Ruiz doubled to bring home Dobbs, then Myers roped one to score Ruiz. Jimmy Rollins singled. Shane Victorino deposited two on a single.
In the third, they picked up where they left Chad Billingsley, as Myers sliced a two-run single, and Victorino knocked a two-run triple. The eight runs were enough.
Myers, however, great at bat, wasn’t as great on the mound, and struggled to command his fastball. His futile blow was a Manny Ramirez homer. No worries — the bullpen did their job. First Chad Durbin, then JC Romero. Then, Ryan Madson had a tremendous 1-2-3 eighth to bridge it to Brad Lidge. He secured another playoff save by striking out Nomar Garciaparra with two on.
So much to write about, and now so much time. Saturday is an off day. They come back Sunday night in Los Angeles. For now, soak it up and celebrate — your Phillies are up 2-0 in the NLCS.
