UPDATE (1:46 p.m.): ESPN-AM 1000 in Chicago reports a deal fthat would send Jake Peavy to Chicago and Mark DeRosa to the Phillies is very close to finished.
From Rotowire:
The main parts of the trade would have Peavy going to the Cubs, while the Northsiders would send Jason Marquis, Kevin Hart and Josh Vitters, one of the Cubs’ top prospects, to the Padres. The Phillies would get Mark DeRosa. There is no clear indication whom the Phillies would part with in this trade. Part of the deal would also include the Cubs paying for part of Marquis’s salary.

Before the new round of updates, here’s where we stand:
- A multi-team deal that would send Jake Peavy to the Cubs and a slew of players to the Padres remains in stalemate. The Phillies have confirmed a deal is in the works, and rumors had them close to acquiring Mark DeRosa for prospects (JA Happ, Kyle Kendrick or Jason Jaramillo). Most recent rumors admit DeRosa may not be the player the Phils want.
Now, according to La Velle Neal, the Twins are asking about DeRosa. The Cubs will give the Twins a list of pitchers they’d want (who would go to the Padres).
