The Phillies selected three players in the Rule V draft today.
First Round (MLB): Bobby Mosebach, RHP, Angels
In 2008, Mosebach, 23, went 9-12 with a 4.62 ERA for AA Arkansas. He struck out 88 and walked 69. And he hasn’t really had a good year since 2006, when he was playing A-ball. He’s a groundball pitcher, too.
I can’t see him sticking on the Phillies in 2009. He’ll be offered back.
First Round (AAA): Kyle Haines, 2B, Giants
Haines hit .259 with a .691 OPS (0 HR, 42 RBI) for the Giants AA club. Nothing special at all here. Maybe he’s a defensive-minded player?
Second Round (AAA): Javis Diaz, OF, Padres
Another poor hitter, he stole 28 bases last season for the Padres A+ team. Nothing else says he’s a winner.
If a player isn’t stashed on their drafted roster all season, they have to be offered back to their original team. Something tells me all three will meet that fate.
