Unnecessary: In The Land Of Digger

Welcome to Unnecessary, a somewhat regular feature where I’ll post something that really has no purpose being posted, other than it somehow involves the Phillies.

So first off, I’m moving. Yes, my life is moving. I’m heading west on Interstate 84 for New York, where I’ll be editing and penning entertainment copy at a newspaper north of the city. Goodbye, Connecticut.

What the hell does this have to do with the Phillies? Well, I’ll be moving to Beacon, N.Y., a simply fantastic town off I-84 with plenty of restaurants, coffee shops, lovely ladies, beers and starving artists. My kind of place. And, turns out, one of Beacon’s favorite sons — maybe it’s greatest favorite son — is ESPN college basketball analyst and former Notre Dame head coach Digger Phelps, who happens to be … yes … father-in-law of Phillies (sorta) pitcher Jamie Moyer.

In fact, Digger is so favored here in Beacon that as I was walking Main Street in town, I crossed a small side street called “Digger Phelps Court.” I took a photo, but can’t upload it now. Dick Vitale’s Diaper Dandies Day Care was not on the same block.

Unnecessary.
