Jon Heyman has reported the Phillies are likely to be interested in free agent outfielder Andruw Jones.
Jones, 31, has 371 career home runs. But in 2008, he hit a horrendous .158 with 3 HR and 14 RBI in one of the worst fall from graces ever seen in baseball. Jones has seemingly transformed from a Hall of Fame-caliber player to a retread who is getting minor league offers. At age 31.
Before we stop the presses and stand on soapboxes, the report doesn’t define what sort of interest it is, or if it’s even there. Jones is one of the many options that could potentially fill that sought-after right-handed bench bat role. And if he were to return to anything close to his career norms, it would be quite the coup.
